1 Sharing Videos Using YouTube and Google Drive for Students • Upload Video to YouTube and Share It • Upload Video to Google Drive and Share It Copyright 2020 Center for Teaching and Learning, McHenry County College 2 Upload Video to YouTube and Share It If you have a Gmail account, log in. If not, create one at www.google.com. After you log in, go to www.YouTube.com. and click on the little camera icon near the top of the page. In the dropdown, select Upload Video. If you just created a new Gmail account, you may be asked to set up your YouTube channel. In the Upload Video window, click on the Select File button. Go find your video, select it, then click Open. While it is uploading you need to scroll down to the bottom of that first page and make sure “No, it’s not made for kids” is checked. Then click on the Next button. The next screen can be skipped. If you select Unlisted, only those with the link can see it. Click Save after making the selection. If the video is still uploading, please wait until it is finished. Don’t close the window. When you see this screen saying the video is processing, you can close the window by clicking on Close. On the right, under the large video screen you will find the link to the video. Copy it and share this link with your intended audience. It can be pasted in a discussion forum, text box or comment box. Upload Video to Google Drive and Share It As a student at McHenry County College you are given an email address that includes a Google Drive account that has unlimited file storage space. If you have not set up your student email yet, go to this link for directions. https://www.mchenry.edu/tech/email.asp. After you log in, go to www.drive.google.com. Copyright 2020 Center for Teaching and Learning, McHenry County College 6 To add anything to your Google Drive select the multicolored Plus (+) New button. It will allow you to create folders, documents or upload files. You can also view your files in list form or as icons. Click here to upload files, create folders, or Files and folders ill h Create Folders Click on the New button and select Folder from the drop down menu. Copyright 2020 Center for Teaching and Learning, McHenry County College 7 A “New Folder” window will open. Give the folder a name and click on the Create button. In this example the folder was named “Video Files.” If you right click on the folder, you will see all of the folder options available. Copyright 2020 Center for Teaching and Learning, McHenry County College 8 Upload Files Note: You don’t have to create a folder to upload files. Folders are only for organizing files. To upload files, click on the blue New button and select File Upload. A file search window will open. Search for your file and select it. Click on the Open button. The file will upload. There will be a progress wheel and a estimated time when the upload will be finished. There will be a message when the upload is done. You will be asked to enter email addresses of those you want to share the file with. Instead click on the word Advanced. In the next window, where it says Private – Only you can access, click on Change. [email protected] Copyright 2020 Center for Teaching and Learning, McHenry County College 10 In the link sharing window, select On – Anyone with the link. Also make sure it says Can view below. Click on the Save button when done. Copy the link that appears in the next window and then click on the Done button. The link can be shared in an email. It can be pasted in a discussion forum in Canvas. It can be pasted [email protected] in a text box for an assignment. Anyone who clicks on the link will be able to view the file.
