National Policy – National Strategy – Plans – Local Strategies - Schemes
Poole Bay, Poole Harbour and Wareham
flood and coastal erosion risk management strategy
Overview of Strategy Issues
• Increasing flood and erosion risks (700mm sea level rise by 2100), leading to;
• Over 10,000 properties at risk by 2110, and • Present Value of benefits £1.75billion
• Developed areas justify Holding the Line and undeveloped areas are highly valued • 44ha intertidal habitat loss in the short term due to coastal squeeze in
SPA/Ramsar sites
• Management of the Wareham tidal banks is unsustainable in the medium to long term
• Fluvial/surface water issues are outside the Strategy but need to be considered
