I am looking forward to welcoming all the crews to the Sussex Combined Clubs Regatta at Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club. It has been a challenging year for us all. With lockdowns now easing we are able to get back to some kind of normality. I would like to thank the Combined Clubs Race Committee for all their hard work in making this event possible. Racing We hope to give you two days of good racing, with four races on Saturday and three on Sunday. Onshore, we have a busy weekend. Friday Once you have moored and are settled in, please come and join us for some food from the club menu followed by a fun quiz. Booking essential if you would like to dine with us. Saturday - Race Day Breakfast served prior to race briefing.. A choice of sausage, bacon or egg rolls with unlimited tea and coffee £5pp. When you return from racing the bar in the Royal Sovereign Suite upstairs will be ready To welcome you with a BBQ and disco from our own DJ Keith. Booking is essential if you would like the BBQ (please book at breakfast). Sunday - Race Day Breakfast served prior to race briefing.. A choice of sausage, bacon or egg rolls with unlimited tea and coffee £5pp. SHYC offers a free one month membership to all visiting yacht crews. This gives you members' prices at the bar. Please ask the bar staff for a temporary membership number. I know some of you will be heading home after racing. I would like to thank you for competing over the weekend. If you are coming into the club, I will thank you personally at the prize giving. I hope you all have a wonderful time and look forward to getting the Sussex Combined Clubs Regatta started again. Class Association Rules shall not apply. The owner of a boat not meeting requirements of Offshore Special Regulations (Category 4) may submit an application for dispensation of Article 1.1(1.1.d) to the organising authority. 1.3. Each participating boat shall be insured for racing with third-party liability cover in the name of the Yacht, the person-in-charge and any surrogate where each person-in-charge or surrogate shall be insured with a minimum third- party liability cover of £3,000,000 per event or the equivalent. In event Insurance cover is changed, lapses or is withdrawn prior to the scheduled end date of Sussex Regatta 2021, the boat shall not compete. 1.4. IRC Rule 22.1.1 shall apply to all competing boats; boats rated with bunk cushions on board may remove the bunk cushions. No compensating weight need be carried. This changes IRC Rule 22.1.1. 1.5. IRC Rule 22.4 is deleted and replaced by ‘Subject to a decision by the person‐in‐charge and rules declared in the Sussex Regatta 2021 Sailing Instructions, no restriction shall apply to the maximum number of crew that may sail aboard a boat. No restrictions on crew weight’ shall apply. This changes IRC Rule 22.4. 1.6. Where safety rules of the above-named organisations conflict, the higher specification shall prevail. 1.7. Changes to this Notice of Race will be posted on the documents page of the Sussex Regatta website: http://thesussexregatta.uk. 1.8. In the event of conflict between this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions of this event the Sailing Instructions shall take precedence. 2. ADVERTISING 2.1. Yachts may be required to display advertising provided by the organising authority. P a g e | 3 Sussex Regatta 2021: Notice of Race 3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 3.1. Applications are invited to enter monohull yachts and sports boats complying with the Articles of section 1 intending to compete in IRC or NHC classes. See Articles of section 9. 3.2. Each application shall include: a) A completed application form online, available in Appendix A of this Notice of Race; b) A copy of the yachts’ Insurance Certificate declaring the names of Yacht, the Person-in-Charge and any surrogate where each Person-in-Charge, or surrogate, shall be insured with a minimum third-party liability cover of £3,000,000 per event or the equivalent; Insurance cover shall be continuous throughout the Sussex Regatta 2021; c) Payment in full aligned to the schedule stated under Article 4; attention is drawn to the payment schedule applying at time the payment and application are deemed completed. N.B. All non-Sovereign Harbour berth holders: Berthing arrangements should be made with Premier Marinas Sovereign Harbour, please see Appendix B of this Notice of Race. 3.3. Applications should be submitted before end of Monday, 14th June 2021. 3.4. Entries received on or after Tuesday 15th June 2021 will be accepted at discretion of the Organising Authority. 3.5. The organising authority may reject or cancel the entry of a boat where the entry is deemed to be inappropriate. See RRS Rule 76. N.B. Until such time the requirements of Article 3.2 are fulfilled the application shall be deemed Incomplete. 4. FEES 4.1. Entry Fees per competing Yacht shall be: £50.00 4.2. See Article 3.4 and footnote at Section 3 5. SCHEDULE 5.1. Scoring Regimes: NHC and IRC (see Article 1.1.e and 1.1.f) 5.3. No start sequence will commence after 14:00hrs on Sunday, 27th June 2021. 5.4. Prior to the start of racing, a briefing will be given by the Race Officer on the water via Marine Band VHF Radio on the Race Frequency Channel 77; the briefing will be repeated 30 minutes prior to the first start of the first IRC race. 6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 6.1. The sailing instructions will be made available on the documents page of the Sussex Regatta website no later than 12:00hrs on Monday 14th June 2021, available at thesussexregatta.uk/documents/. 6.2. It shall be the responsibility of the person-in-charge to obtain the Sailing Instructions in electronic format and distribute with their crew as required. Hard-copies will not be available from the Organising Authority. 7. VENUE 7.1. The Race Office and evening social events will be located at Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club. 7.2. Yachts not from Sovereign Harbour should make berthing arrangements with Premier Marinas, and request to be berthed in the North Harbour near to the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club 7.3. A Prize Giving will be held on Sunday 27th June in Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club after racing is complete and results have been finalised. This will be held ASAP after competitors have had sufficient time to return to the SHYC Club House after the final race. 7.4. Further details of the shoreside schedule can be found in the welcoming letter at the start of this Notice of Race. 8. COURSES 8.1. The race area shall be the English Channel in the vicinity of Eastbourne Bay; between longitude 000˚14’.50W (Beachy Head Lighthouse) and longitude 000˚26’.50W (Line extending due north from the Royal Sovereign Light Tower) and up to 8 NM offshore. 8.2. Courses to be sailed shall be specified in the Sailing Instructions. P a g e | 5 Sussex Regatta 2021: Notice of Race 9. SCORING 9.1. IRC and NHC Races: a) The Low Point scoring system shall be used. b) The prescriptions as set out under RRS Appendix A shall apply. c) In accordance with RRS Appendix A1: If one race is started, and where one boats sailed the course and finished in accordance with the provisions of the Sailing Instructions for the Sussex Regatta, the series shall be deemed constituted; series scores shall be awarded accordingly.

DESCRIPTION Integrated Key Characteristics: • Inter-tidal shoreline occurring at the base of the steep chalk cliffs where the South Downs meet the sea. • Characterised by flint shingle beaches, formed from erosion of chalk to reveal flint nodules that are eroded into pebbles. • Chalk rubble, resulting from cliff falls, forms spits of land that extend into the sea. • A dynamic and continually changing landscape featuring constant erosion and re- stocking of the beaches. • An exposed, wild landscape which is open to the elements and whose character is governed by the weather. • Engineered solutions to coastal erosion, sometimes extensive, such as wooden or concrete groynes and concrete retaining structures. • Coastal features such as lighthouses, associated with coastal navigation, and anti- invasion defences. • Extensive views out across the sea to the horizon.

You can also save a km by skipping Newhaven's break water. Toughness 3 out of 10. Easy going on hard surfaces. No shingle. Wear trainers. OS Maps OS Explorer OL11 (was 122) (Brighton) Walk This coastal walks has a varied mix - a Victorian Fort and harbour arm, quiet White Cliffs, an undercliff path, Brighton's Notes marina, busy promenades and board walks passing Brighton's pier, shops, cafes, and, on sunny days thousands of day trippers. Then its quieter promenade and beach huts, before ending in Portslade. The whole walk has nice sea views, and there are many places to swim. It starts with a short walk down to the sea passing a Victorian Fort to Newhavan's harbour arm. Then a rural section along a gently undulating cliff top path, with sea views. You can then continue the cliff top path past seafront houses of Peacehaven, then Telescombe, but still great views out to sea, or the undercliff path below. There are 3 pubs en-route, 2 of which have sea view from the patio - The Peacehaven (very cheap), the Telescombe Tavern (good, sea view from "garden"), and the Smuggler's Rest (on the cliff edge).

Introduction 1.1 This document summarises the strategic objectives and policies contained within the Draft Shoreham Harbour Joint Area Action Plan (JAAP). The Draft Plan sets out a 15-20 year plan to guide the regeneration of Shoreham Harbour. 1.2 The proposals for the harbour outlined in this Draft Plan include: New housing: • Up to 1,450 new homes to 2031 (potentially a further 500 beyond the plan period) o 1,050 along the Western Harbour Arm in Adur District o 400 in South Portslade and Aldrington Basin in Brighton & Hove Employment and economy: • Consolidation of Shoreham Port operations in to the areas east and south of the lock gates • Approximately 21,500 sqm of employment floor space: o 14,000 sqm in Adur District o 7,500 sqm in Brighton & Hove • Generation of 1,500-1,700 new full time jobs directly (between 620- 870 net additional) and retention of 1,700 Port jobs • Support for 1,630-1,720 full time temporary construction jobs Local environmental improvements: • Upgraded flood defence network integrated with a riverside walking/cycling route • New and improved social and community facilities • New and improved marine leisure facilities • Improvements to local transport network • Upgrades to public spaces and historic features and better connections with surrounding areas 2.
