Dear Kiwanians:
I hope this finds everyone staying positive. A few updates:
• Thank you to Angela Buchman who spoke to us last week. I think we all learned more about the weather from her talk, she did a great job with today's weather!
• Tomorrow's meeting will be a "Kiwanis Connections" meeting, the Zoom link is here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83743255883?status=success
• Upcoming speakers include Buffalo University professor Jim Lemoine (May 14) who will speak to us on servant leadership and Kiwanis International Vice President Peter Mancuso (May 21)
• In-person meetings are canceled through July 4th, we gave this a lot of thought relying on information from Governor Holcomb and Mayor Hogsett. We miss everyone, but your health and safety is our top priority
• Both the International Convention and our golf outing have been canceled
• Welcome to new member Max Harper! Max is a colleague of mine at Butler University and we are thrilled to have him as a member.
• We are pleased to announce our new Kiwanis Club of Board of Directors: Nancy Alrichs, Bill Dubois, Duke Haddad, and Carol Orbison. Congratulations and thank you for your service!
In closing, I've reflected on my week which consisted of the following:
• Took my family out to Ft. Harrison State Park for a picnic, it's beautiful there right now and I highly recommend a visit.
• Watched a great documentary on Saturday Night Live comedian Darrell Hammond and his battles with childhood trauma and mental illness https://www.crackedupmovie.com/
• I attempted a new recipe of baked fish and scallops, it failed and I compensated by ordering everyone HotBox Pizza
• Finished up a great sportsbook: https://www.amazon.com/Back-Roads-March-Unheralded- Basketball/dp/0385544480, great read
• One of our students put together this video on Butler basketball and Hinkle Fieldhouse which was outstanding to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maELe5lwF2M
In closing, a quote to perhaps reflect on: “Resilience is very different than being numb. Resilience means you experience, you feel, you fail, you hurt. You fall. But, you keep going.”
Stay positive, I hope to see you all at noon tomorrow!
Graham
