Event Summary Thank You from Dempsey Center Patrick Dempsey Expansion in 2018 EVENT SUMMARY THANK YOU FROM DEMPSEY CENTER PATRICK DEMPSEY EXPANSION IN 2018 To Dempsey Challenge participants, sponsors, volunteers, donors and the Lewiston-Auburn community: I can’t adequately express how grateful all of us at the Dempsey Center are for your support of the 9th Annual Dempsey Challenge. It is remarkable what we can accomplish when we come together and work toward a common goal. This event is a wonderful example of unity and positivity in today’s hectic world. From the participants who raised over $1.2M for the Dempsey Center; to the passionate, helpful volunteers who donated their time; to our generous corporate partners who help cover event costs; to the thousands of donors, spectators, local businesses and community members — you all play an integral and important part in the success of the Dempsey Challenge. We hope you take pride and ownership in this event and recognize the huge difference you’re making for individuals and families impacted by cancer. I am so proud to be from this community, proud of the work the Dempsey Center is doing, and proud to come home. I also look forward to hosting the Dempsey Challenge in Lewiston for many more years to come. Gratefully, Patrick Dempsey Founder, Dempsey Center L to R: Patrick Dempsey (Dempsey Center Founder), Nicole Avery (Cancer Community Center Executive Director), Wendy Tardif (Dempsey Center Executive Director), Bill Williams (Cancer Community Center President of the Board) As you may have heard, in July 2017 the boards of directors of South Portland’s Cancer Community Center and Lewiston’s Dempsey Center unanimously agreed to develop a merger agreement in early 2018. The newly merged entity will be independent of Central Maine Healthcare, a founding partner of the Dempsey Center, and begin operating under the name the Dempsey Centers for Quality Cancer Care (Dempsey Centers), reflecting the organization’s scale and multiple locations. The merger remains subject to ongoing due diligence and final approval of the boards of directors of both organizations in the first quarter of 2018. This expansion will allow the Dempsey Centers to serve more people impacted by cancer, add and enhance services and programs across both locations, utilize resources more efficiently, and maximize fundraising potential. The Dempsey Challenge will continue to be held in Lewiston-Auburn as the premiere fundraising event for the Dempsey Centers, with every dollar raised by participants benefitting the Centers so we may continue to provide our services at no cost across both locations. In addition, more fundraising events and campaigns will be added in 2018 and beyond to support our mission and sustain this new organization. We will continue to rely on the generosity of our corporate partners, donors, fundraisers and volunteers to help us realize this expanded organization and reach more individuals and families in need of support. $ 367 TEAMS RAISED 1.2 M+ $ RAISED 895,974 VOLUNTEER BREAKDOWN PARTICIPANT BREAKDOWN 50 LOCAL ORGANIZING CMTE. 50 MEDICAL, SAG, TECHNICAL 1,078 CYCLISTS 170 CHEER STATIONS 2,648 RUN/WALKERS 120 REST STOPS 119 VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS 657 DEMPSEY CENTER, VENUE, 36 TWO-DAY RIDERS FESTIVAL, COURSE 308 PARTICIPATED BOTH MARSHALS, SUPPLY DIST.
