P.O. Box 164 Mannsville, NY 13661 -0164 National Radio Club AM Radio Log - Sixteenth Edition printed by Tim and Paula Sacher - Pulaski Office Supplies 7590 Jefferson St. - Pulaski, NY 13142 National Radio Club's A M Radio Log 16th Edition The 16th Edition of the "AM Radio Log" is dedicated to Ken Chatterton. As the Chairman of the NRC Board of Directors, Ken has been a driving force in keeping the National Radio Club, "DX NEWS" and the "DX AUDIO SERVICE" on the cutting edge of the AM DX hobby. His many hours of work on behalf of the Board of Directors and running the National Radio Club's Publication Center are one of the main reasons that this publication is still in existence today Wayne Heinen September 23, 1995 Formerly called the "National Radio Club Domestic Log." The first edition of the National Radio Club Domestic Log was published by mimeograph end hand typed stencil in Boston in 1968, with John Callarman providing the typing and the original Boston Publishing Committee the hand labor. The second and third editions were published in Boston as the Boston Publishing Committee changed the method of print for National Radio Club publications to commercial offset. There was a "mid- term" edition published by the New Jersey Publishing Committee it 1975, and a new edition of the National Radio Club Log in the fall of 1976 . The log also underwent another technological change when in 1978 the log information went from 3" x 5" cards to a computerized system. In order for us to keep you abreast of the ever changing AM dial scene the logbook is now published annually, just prior to the start of the Fall listening season. The roots of the National Radio Club Log, though, date back to the 1930's when RADEX magazine published a log, and the 40's and 50's when the Newark News Radio Club BCB editor Carroll Weyrich produced an annual medium wave log. The accuracy of an endeavor like the National Radio Club AM LOG cannot be guaranteed, primarily because changes occur daily in the vast amounts of information contained in this publication. Network, format, schedule, and address information is vey volatile and since there are no central sources to which all this information must be reported, it requires close monitoring by many people to keep this information up to date. Information from the FCC and from the stations themselves, as well as from you the user of this log help to keep the information current and accurate. The National Radio Club publishes "DX NEWS" 32 time a year. By subscribing to "DX NEWS" magazine, you will receive important AM station changes within 3 weeks after we first hear of it. The National Radio Club is a non - profit organization beginning our 63rd year, run by radio enthusiasts for radio enthusiasts. The people who publish the National Radio Club AM RADIO LOG, DX NEWS magazine and DX AUDIO SERVICE, some with many years of background in the professional broadcasting field, are as interested as you are in the need for accurate and fast information. We hope you will consider joining us as we explore the ever changing world of AM broadcasting and distant reception. This edition has received numerous updates by many National Radio Club members and other interested AM radio hobbyists. Special thanks go to Jerry Starr for an exhaustive effort to correct many errors to the FCC data which appears in the log. Jerry's work of this addition assures you of the most up to date power and antenna information available anywhere. For our Canadian data a special thanks to Shawn Axlerod for the CRTC information. Jerry and Shawn were by no means the only participants in this Club effort to continue to bring you the best and most accurate log. Also John D. & Linda Bowker who proofed, corrected and updated numerous address and phone entries in the 16th edition. It is of great importance to the users of this Log to pass changes to us as they occur. The accuracy of the AM Radio Log's next edition will be from the input of purchasers that helps us keep this publication data base maintained. C L fl s: FCC 8L_,8 FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Washington, D.C. 20554 34 329 In the Matter of ) Amendment of Part 73 of the ) Commission's Rules and Regulations ) BC Docket No. 79-265 1V Concerning the Nighttime Power ) Limitations for Class IV AM ) Broadcast Stations ) RERT AND ORDER (Proceeding Terminated) Adopted: March 15, i98+ ; Released: March 23, 198Lf By the Commission: INTRODUCTION 1. The Commission has before it the Notice of Proposed Rule Making in this proceeding adopted October 19, 1983, 48 FR 50571; November 2, 1983, and the comments and reply comments filed in response to the Notice. In order to place the Notice proposal to increase the nighttime power of Class IV AN stations in context, some background information is necessary. By Report and Order, FCC 58-573, Power Limitations of Class IV Stations, 17 RR 1541 (1958), released June 2, 1958, the Commission increased the maximum permissible daytime power for Class IV AM broadcast stations from 250 watts to 1 kilowatt. This action was taken in response to a petition for rule making filed April 3, 1956 by Community Broadcasters Association, Inc. ("CBA"), an organization representing Class IV AN stations. The across-the-board approach to the power increase was chosen to improve reception of these stations while maintaining their existing coverage areas. CBA also had petitioned for a power increase at night as well, but this could not then be pursued because of international treaty constraints. Recent international developments have suggested that these international restrictions against increasing nighttime power will likely be removed at an early date.
