Methodology This report provides an overview of the tourism trends and patterns in the Weskus. The findings will illustrate key visitor trends obtained from the regional visitor tracking survey. Responses to the regional visitor tracking surveys are used as a proxy to indicate the key trends within the Western Cape and the various regions. It is important to note that absolute figures cannot be determined from these surveys, as the survey responses are a sample of the tourists into the respective tourism offices across the Western Cape, and would thus represent a sample of the visitors. Therefore, where statistically relevant absolute numbers may be given, however, a share is provided to indicate the trend. This is based on international best practice in the use of surveys within the tourism industry for determining key trends. Definition: Tourist: refers to any visitor travelling to a place other than that of his/her own environment for more than one night, but less than 12 months and for whom the main purpose of the trip is other than the exercise of an activity remunerated for from within the place visited.

  • From 50 Dump Sites to 50 Waste Disposal Facilities – Challenges and Lessons Learnt
Pienaar, R.A. and Howard, M. Proceedings of the 20th WasteCon Conference 6-10 October 2014. Somerset West, Cape Town From 50 Dump Sites to 50 Waste Disposal Facilities – Challenges and Lessons Learnt R.A. Pienaar. Associate Engineer, AECOM South Africa. [email protected] M. Howard. Executive Technical Manager, AECOM South Africa. [email protected] ABSTRACT Waste generation and therefore waste management and waste disposal sites is something that is synonymous with all towns in South Africa. A large number of disposal sites in South Africa are operating illegally and without a license. The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) undertook to begin the process of licencing the sites with a target that all would be licensed by 2013/2014. AECOM was appointment to undertake the licence application process for 50 unlicensed communal landfill sites in the Western Cape, in December 2013. 50 Basic Assessment reports had to be submitted before the end of March 2014. The sites were spread over a large area covering most of the Western Cape Province and logistical, weather, consultation and communication challenges were experienced. The final reports recommended rehabilitation methods to ensure that the sites operate or close in a manner that will minimise any negative impact on the surrounding environment. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Project Background Waste generation and therefore waste management and waste disposal sites are something that is synonymous with all towns in South Africa. Every town, regardless of how small, needs some sort of waste management system and it is a reality that most of the small town disposal sites in South Africa are very poorly managed and maintained.

Shared morphological characters with related South African species place the new species within L. sect. Circinaria. Evidence is presented to segregate the new species from relatives based on discrete morphological and environmental characters. The holotype of the L. dagmarae is preserved at NBG. Key words: Afrolimon, Limonium sect. Circinaria, species nova, strandveld, Succulent Karoo Introduction Plumbaginaceae Juss. is a moderately-sized family in the Caryophyllales Bercht. & J.Presl and comprises 25– 30 genera and 650–1000 species (Hernández-Ledesma et al. 2015, Christenhusz & Byng 2016).
