Each year, we assemble a cross- section of Country radio pros to draft, fantasy football-style, a team of artists and label execs. And each year, to this point anyway, the early picks are devoted to the format’s biggest stars. Not this time around... First things first, the final tally from the 2015 draft is in and the winner is ... wait for it ... [Ed. Note: There is no tally. There is no scoring system. April 18, 2016, Issue 495 Inside The ACMs With RAC Clark Our annual interview with Exec. Producer RAC Clark offers insight into the 51st ACM Awards (4/3) and many of its notable performances. CA: Let’s hit the numbers first and talk about this year’s ratings... RAC: They sucked. I’ll just say that. They sucked. [Ed. Note: 11.18 million viewers, 2.3 rating/7 share]. But it was one of the more competitive nights we’ve had since being up against the American Idol finale a few years back. The Walking Dead was big. The iHeart awards didn’t rate that well, really, so I don’t think that hurt us. The Walking Dead really got us and Steve Harvey’s Little Big Shots is a new hit on NBC that actually beat us in the second half-hour at 8pm. We won the night, but ratings were down year- to-year after a spectacular year in Dallas with the 50th. When we talked to producer Robert Deaton about the CMAs, he said, “I’ve never completely understood wanting to compare us against the AMAs, Grammys, ACMs or In A Big Way: EMI/Nashville’s Eric Paslay (third Oscars.” His point was, an awards show’s competition is from right) with (l-r) WEBG (Big 95.5)/Chicago’s Erik what it’s facing that night, not something that’s airing in Zachary and Mason, EMI’s Chris Fabiani and the an entirely different month. • Any Golden Ears Still Exist?
BRETT ELDREDGE Drunk On Your Love Atlantic (WMN) CONTENTS Any Golden Ears Still Exist? — Charts Dear Readers; In an article in RadioInfo, the following important question was raised...the article was written by Duane Doobie. Here is an excerpt…. You know what’s really missing in today’s contemporary music radio scene? It was an element of the industry that played a key role in radio claiming “ownership” of popular music culture (one of my favorite obsessions) during the many decades that the medium actually occupied that lofty position within the kingdom of the cool. The answer: Broadcasters with a well-earned reputation for having “golden ears.” When this business was clicking on all cylinders, every format of music radio was populated by a healthy smattering of well-known and widely- respected programmers (PDs, MDs, jocks) who were considered by their colleagues in both the radio and record ends of the scene to have “golden ears.” For the uninitiated, that means they were able to spot a hit at first-listening a mile away. Obviously they were not always right – but for the most part they were close to the mark, at least PAGE 2-4 collectively. They were invaluable “bell cows” giving the industry direction. They didn’t NEED “research.” They WERE research. — Chart Breakouts These magical people were the front-line of radio’s penetration into the bubbling, churning, seminal brew of the unfiltered energy field that constitutes the base-level from which all definition, categorization and the hierarchy of PAGE 5-6 “hits” rises in what we consider to be the popular music/cultural scene.

  • SASHA ALEX SLOAN RELEASES “When Was It Over?” FEAT. SAM HUNT
SASHA ALEX SLOAN RELEASES “when was it over?” FEAT. SAM HUNT (Nashville, TN – April 23, 2021) – Critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Sasha Alex Sloan returns with her first new release in 2021. “when was it over?” feat. Sam Hunt was written by Sasha, Sam Hunt, King Henry, Shane McAnally, and Emi Dragoi and produced by King Henry and is out now via RCA Records. Listen HERE. On “when was it over?” Sloan pairs for the first time with the incredible Sam Hunt for a country duet tinged with the beauty and the pain of an ending relationship. Says Sloan, “when was it over?” is about not being able to let go of someone even when you know there’s nothing left. Shane brought the title into the room and Sam and I both loved it. The rest fell into place from there.” Always a fan of collaboration as both a performer and a songwriter, this duet follows Sloan’s most recent partnering with Charlie Puth on a new version of her acclaimed track “Is It Just Me?” The original version of “Is It Just Me?” was featured on The New York Times Playlist column and is just one of the many critically heralded tracks on Sloan’s debut album Only Child. Idolator gave the album a 5/5 rating saying the 10-song set is “extraordinary,” LADYGUNN declared Sasha “the real deal” and American Songwriter called her a “…prolific pop writer…” Sasha performed “Lie” on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on September 24th. Photo Credit: David O’Donohue About Sasha Alex Sloan After emerging late 2017 and appearing on a handful of high-profile collaborations, 26-year-old singer/songwriter Sasha Alex Sloan released her debut single “Ready Yet.” Since then, she has established herself as a true wordsmith, an artist’s artist, who crafts potent melodies filled with poignant lyrics.
