What they say Sevilla coach Unai Emery: "Borussia Mönchengladbach are third in the Bundesliga and having a great season – they finished top of Villarreal's group. I wouldn't say they are favourites, though. Out main priority is a win, but it is important that we don't concede goals; I don't think 0-0 is a good score. Last season we enjoyed our path to the final, focusing only on the present. We have to enjoy it now, too. Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Lucien Favre: "Sevilla are a very good team and it will be a very interesting match. We are third in the Bundesliga, and better than when we played Lazio at this stage [three] years ago. Sevilla have a lot of great players: Bacca, Navarro, Carriço, Krychowiak, Banega, Denis Suárez, Deulofeu … although Coke and Mbia are out. I watched last season's final and Sevilla deserved to win. It wasn't a surprise for me. Previous meetings • The sides are meeting for the first time in UEFA competition. • Sevilla are undefeated in nine home games against German clubs in UEFA competition – W5 D4. • Mönchengladbach are without a win in four matches in Spain (D2 L2) since a 4-2 victory at Real Zaragoza on their first visit in December 1974. Form guide • Sevilla have won their last five European fixtures at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán since a 2-0 loss to neighbours Real Betis Balompié in last season's UEFA Europa League round of 16. • Mönchengladbach are unbeaten in eight European games this term, including four away from home (W2 D2). • Eliminated by SS Lazio on their last round of 32 appearance, in 2012/13, Gladbach have not won a springtime European tie since beating Vitória SC en route to a 1986/87 UEFA Cup semi-final exit to Dundee United FC. Trivia and links • Gladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer turns 24 on the day of the Sevilla game. • Gladbach's Spain defender Álvaro Domínguez played alongside Sevilla's José Antonio Reyes at Club Atlético de Madrid from 2008–11. Another Sevilla player, midfielder Éver Banega, was an Atlético team-mate of the pair during a loan stint at the club in 2008/09. • Gladbach's Norway midfielder Håvard Nordtveit also briefly played in Spain, spending part of 2008 loaned to UD Salamanca. • Holders Sevilla (2006, 2007 and 2014) and Mönchengladbach (1974 and 1979) have won this competition five times between them. • They are among 11 former UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League winners in the round of 32 along with Tottenham Hotspur FC (1972 and 1984), Liverpool FC (1973, 1976 and 2001), Feyenoord (1975 and 2002), PSV Eindhoven (1978), RSC Anderlecht (1983), SSC Napoli (1989), FC Internazionale Milano (1991, 1994 and 1998), AFC Ajax (1992), and FC Zenit (2008). • This is Sevilla's 100th UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League match; the preceding 99 ended W52 D24 L23. The coaches • Sevilla boss since January 2013, one-time midfielder Unai Emery switched from playing to coaching at Lorca Deportiva CF. Having led UD Almería to the top tier, he coached Valencia CF from 2008 to 2012, with his side regular European contenders during that spell. More recently, he had a short reign at FC Spartak Moskva. • Emery is one of three coaches in the last 32 who have won the UEFA Europa League since the competition took on its current incarnation, along with Zenit's André Villas-Boas (FC Porto 2011) and Napoli's Rafael Benítez (Chelsea FC 2013). • Swiss trainer Lucien Favre is guiding Mönchengladbach in a second UEFA Europa League campaign, having steered them to the round of 32 in 2012/13. The ex-Switzerland midfielder lifted two national titles and a Swiss Cup in charge of FC Zürich, and managed Hertha BSC Berlin before taking over Mönchengladbach in 2011. 5 Sevilla FC - VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach Thursday 19 February 2015 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Seville Team facts Sevilla FC Formed: 1905 Nickname: Los Hispalenses (from Hispalis, Seville's ancient name), Los Blanquirrojos (white-and-reds) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League (3): 2006, 2007, 2014 • UEFA Super Cup (1): 2006, (2007), (2014) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Spanish title: 1 (1946) Spanish Cup: 5 (2010) Ten-year European record (UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2013/14: winners 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2011/12: play-offs 2010/11: round of 32 (having transferred from UEFA Champions League play-offs) 2009/10: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2008/09: group stage 2007/08: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2006/07: winners 2005/06: winners 2004/05: round of 16 Records UEFA club competition • Biggest
