Private funding would go towards the new stadium, while public funding would be used to build a convention center. In March 2012, the state legislature declined to give $2,500,000 for design proposals until a more firm commitment to the project from the City of Baltimore is verbalized. As of July 2014, no commitment had been made. NAMING RIGHTS: Baltimore Blast owner and 1st Mariner Bank President and CEO Ed Hale acquired the naming rights to the arena through his company, Arena Ventures, LLC, as a result of a national competitive bidding process conducted by the City of Baltimore. Arena Ventures agreed to pay the City $75,000 annually for ten years for the naming rights, which ran from 2003 to 2013.
