The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra serves up sexy, stylish James Bond-themed evenings

Calgary, AB: The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is paying tribute to the silver screen’s most famous spy, with a little help from two Broadway vocalists.

Capathia Jenkins (Newsies) and Ron Bohmer (The Phantom of the Opera) join the CPO for a special cocktail fundraising party, and two concerts dedicated to the music of the 007 film franchise.

You Only Live Twice James Bond Cocktail Party Start the Bond celebration off right with this stylish fundraiser. At this suave, intimate evening, guests will enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a display of Bond cars and Bond guns, and live performances from Jenkins and Bohmer. All proceeds from the evening go towards supporting the CPO.

50 Years of James Bond Suspense, mystery and drama unfold with unforgettable soundtrack highlights from the blockbuster James Bond films.

Philharmonic Orchestra member!

John Morris Russell, conductor Consistently winning international praise for his extraordinary music-making and visionary leadership, John Morris Russell is conductor of the Cincinnati Pops, Music Director of the Hilton Head Symphony and the first ever Conductor Laureate of the Windsor (ON) Symphony Orchestra; prior to that appointment he served as that Orchestra’s Music Director for many Seasons.

As a guest conductor, Maestro Russell has led many of North America’s most distinguished ensembles, including the orchestras of Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Dallas, Minnesota, Miami’s New World Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the Oregon Symphony, Colorado Symphony, New York City Ballet, New York Pops, the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

For many years he John Morris Russell served as Music Director of the Windsor Symphony before being named that orchestra’s first Laureate Conductor. He received a Master of Music degree in conducting from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Williams College in Massachusetts.

John Morris Russell has had two recordings released with the Cincinnati Pops: Home for the Holidays and Superheroes!

Capathia Jenkins, vocalist The Brooklyn-born and raised actress, Capathia Jenkins, most recently starred as ‘Medda’ in the hit Disney production of Newsies on Broadway. She made her Broadway debut in The Civil War, where she created the role of Harriet Jackson. She then starred in the Off-Broadway 2000 revival of Godspell, where she wowed audiences with her stirring rendition of ‘Turn Back, O Man’ which can still be heard on the original cast recording. She returned to Broadway in The Look of Love and was critically

acclaimed for her performances of the Bacharach/David hits. Ms. Jenkins then created the roles of ‘The Washing Machine’ in Caroline, Or Change and ‘Frieda May’ in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, where she sang ‘Stop the Show’ and brought the house down every night.

In 2007 she went back to Off-Broadway and starred in (mis) Understanding Mammy-The Hattie McDaniel Story, for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Most recently she was seen in Nora Ephron’s Love, Loss, and What I Wore.

An active concert artist, Ms. Jenkins has appeared with orchestras around the world including the Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony (with Marvin Hamlisch), National Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Utah Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Memphis Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, San Diego Symphony and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. She was a soloist with the Festival Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. In 2011 Capathia had the great honor of performing in the ‘Broadway Ambassadors to Cuba’ concert as part of the Festival De Teatro De La Habana. This December, Ms. Jenkins will be the guest soloist with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and will make her debut this season with the Cincinnati Pops.

Her television credits include 30 Rock, the Practice, Law & Order SVU, the Sopranos, Law & Order. She can be seen in the 2012 film Musical Chairs directed by Susan Seidelman. She can be heard on the following film soundtracks: Nine, Chicago, Legally Blonde 2.

Ron Bohmer, vocalist Ron Bohmer currently stars as the prophet Joseph Smith in the National Tour of The Book of Mormon. He also starred as the Phantom in The Phantom Of The Opera, Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard (Jefferson Award nomination), Alex in (LA Robby award), Enjolras in Les Miserables, Fyedka in , as Coach Bolton in the cultural phenomenon Disney’s High School Musical, Sir Percival Glyde in The Woman in White, and as the title role in The Scarlet Pimpernel (National Award nomination). His recent Broadway roles include Father in the Tony®-nominated revival of and Frid in the Tony®-nominated revival of .

As a concert soloist, Ron has appeared at , Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center and New York City’s Town Hall and is a guest artist with symphony orchestras across the US and Canada. Recent and upcoming Symphony performances include Oh what a Night! and Today’s Broadway (Steven Reineke conducting), Mancini and Moonlight and A Broadway Valentine (Buffalo Philharmonic), Rock On! Broadway and A Rodgers and Hammerstein Celebration (Stuart Molina conducting), Bond and Beyond: The Music of 007 (John Morris Russell conducting) among others.
