CTBC Financial Holding Co. Ltd. pursued ISO 50001 and other ISO standards at its CTBC Bank headquarters in 2012, then certified 152 bank branches. Galvanized by the energy and environmental benefits achieved by CTBC Bank, other CTBC subsidiaries followed suit, with 194 sites eventually certified to ISO 50001. Over seven years, CTBC Holdings increased energy performance 16 percent and cut carbon emissions by 5,316 metric tons. JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. adopted ISO 50001 at its Vikrant Tyre Plant in 2013 to help shrink its carbon footprint from fossil fuel use 70% by 2023—while increasing production. Over the past seven years, the plant has cut its emissions (CO2 equivalent) by more than 71 tons and reduced its energy costs by US $1,888,262. The EnMS helped the plant establish strong internal and external communications and clearly define criteria for efficiently operating and maintaining all significant energy-using equipment to maintain and grow its savings. PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk. Noodle Division PT Indofood CBP (ICBP) Sukses Makmur Tbk. is a leading maker of instant noodles and the first such manufacturer in Southeast Asia to earn ISO 50001 certification. The ICBP Noodle Division’s three certified facilities collectively reduced their energy use by 10.7% over three years—cutting energy costs by US $830,400 and emissions by 25,526 metric tons (carbon dioxide equivalent). Minna Wu The Shandong region has been of considerable interest to the study of ancient China due to its location in the eastern periphery of the central culture. For the Western Zhou state, Shandong was the “Far East” and it was a vast region of diverse landscape and complex cultural traditions during the Late Bronze-Age (1000-500 BCE). In this research, the developmental trajectories of three different types of secondary states are examined. The first type is the regional states established by the Zhou court; the second type is the indigenous Non-Zhou states with Dong Yi origins; the third type is the states that may have been formerly Shang polities and accepted Zhou rule after the Zhou conquest of Shang. On the one hand, this dissertation examines the dynamic social and cultural process in the eastern periphery in relation to the expansion and colonization of the Western Zhou state; on the other hand, it emphasizes the agency of the periphery during the formation of secondary states by examining how the polities in the periphery responded to the advances of the Western Zhou state and how local traditions impacted the composition of the local material assemblage which lay the foundation for the future prosperity of the regional culture.

FLATH Introduction For most people, the written texts of history are only pale reflections of the history they see in their everyday surroundings. An ancient building, a local museum, a statue in a park, or even a notable landscape can carry historical narratives in ways that are more immediate and lasting than any well-re- searched discourse on history. Yet these publicly accessible historical represen- tations are also highly selective in the subjects they portray. Visitors often leave with little more than an impression of the event, person, or place represented by the site, and perhaps a souvenir or T-shirt as evidence of their historical experience. So although the historical site is a poor representation of the actual past, the immediacy and stature of historical monuments and museums imbue them with a strong capacity to configure history in the present. This discussion considers how the past informs the present through the preserved and monumentally represented remains of provincial Chinese history. China, as we are frequently reminded, has the world’s longest continu- ous history and probably the greatest number of historical sites.

    The Emergence of Chinese Christian Leaders in Shandong’s Presbyterian Mission AACS 2014 GWU, Washington, DC John R. Stanley **This copy is for presentation only and should not be copied or quoted without the author’s permission Throughout the history of the Protestant missionary movement in China the stated goal of every group was to develop a Chinese three-self church that could stand alone without the leadership or financial help from foreign entities. It is generally accepted that most missions were unable to fully accomplish this goal due to the extensive institutions and other areas of good works that the foreigner engaged in and that it was only when the westerners retreated from their stations in the 1920s and 1930s that one finally saw a Chinese Church evolve. This paper will consider the slow rise of Chinese Christian leadership in the American Presbyterian Shandong Mission before this period noting the specific importance that education played in this process. The Shandong Mission, like many of the others of its time, also had the goal of a three-self church. Some of China’s famous foreign evangelists were a member of this mission, including John Nevius and Hunter Corbett. The Mission also boasted an extensive school system and rural outstation network. 1 Although well staffed, most of the missionaries by the 1920s were engaged in non-Church related work in the Shandong Christian University ( Qilu) or other oversight activities. It is clear from the development of this Mission that much of the work was taken over by the local Chinese by the 1920s.
