“T he true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.” — Buckminster Fuller CATALYZE INNOVATION FOR EVERY STUDENT

The mission of the 21st Century Fund is to catalyze innovation at Brookline High School by supporting faculty-led initiatives that foster academic success for all students. The Fund energizes BHS faculty with opportunities for leadership and inventive thinking, making Brookline High School a laboratory for new and creative approaches in public school education. Most importantly, the Fund’s projects inspire students to dream, to think, to explore, and to create a better 21st century.

The word education is derived from the Latin educatio, meaning a bringing up and is related to educo, which means I lead forth. To educate is literally to lead and raise up.

The challenge of the 21st Century Fund is to advance the raising up of learning. The Fund empowers teachers to creatively and collaboratively rethink what is possible and propels students to embrace new levels of curiosity about their world. Innovating Partnership

“ Brookline High is working closely with the 21st Century Fund to craft an exciting Fund-school partnership that will be critical to our ongoing innovative thinking. This year at the high school, we launched our BHS 2020 vision and work. The Fund is playing a key role in supporting the BHS 2020 work and providing all students with the skills they need to succeed in our complex and changing world.” — Deborah Holman Headmaster Scaling Progress Teacher by teacher and student by student, impact becomes a paradigm shift. Scaling Progress Teacher by teacher and student by student, impact becomes a paradigm shift.

The Real Revolution is in Information and Relationships

“ Who owns the learning? Are the right people getting the right information at the right time? Then, after I figure out the information question, I would ask if we have the right relationships? Collegially, teachers working with teachers, parents working with teachers and students, and students working with students and parents.” — Alan November Renowned Leader on Innovative Learning

“ BHS’ Content Reading Initiative is leading the way – on a national level – in the effort to address secondary-level literacy issues. Teachers involved in CRI are diving deep into their own practice. They are experimenting, reflecting, collecting data, and writing about what they are learning. “I’m not just teaching social studies,” one teacher remarked, “I’m teaching literacy, which is making my students more astute learners of history.” — Jenee Ramos, Teacher I Invest in the 21st Century Fund Because…
