    CHAPTER EIGHT Transportation Plan Broadly defined, the transportation plan is a plan for the movement of people and goods throughout the township. More specifically, it documents township roadway classifications and traffic volumes, while providing recommendations on mitigating congestion and safety problems. It also examines alternative transportation modes such as public transit and pedestrian and bicycle pathways. With the degree to which the recommendations contained in this chapter are implemented, it would not only allow for the continued efficient flow of people and goods, but will also help to maintain and enhance the quality of life currently enjoyed in the township. This chapter is comprised of three main sections: roadways, public transit, and pedestrian/bicycle path- ways. Each section contains its own specific set of recommendations. Roadways The township’s original comprehensive plan of 1965 presents a bold, optimistic outlook on the future of Whitemarsh’s road network. Traffic congestion would be eliminated through the construction of new roads and bridges; expressways are envisioned bisecting the township and a bridge would provide a direct connec- tion to the Schuylkill Expressway. Hazardous intersections would be eliminated through improvements and realignments. An ambitious document, it is a reflection of a time when the answer to current woes was new construction that was bigger and therefore better. While the merits of new expressways and wider roads are still a debatable point, for the township it is moot. Despite the fact that this plan contained many valid ideas, most of the new roadway opportunities have been lost through subsequent development and a greater appre- ciation for older structures makes road widenings difficult.

Proper selection of courses, which match students’ abilities, interests, and aspirations, will prepare them for future educational and career goals. This Course Guide has been prepared to guide and assist all students and their parents in the choice of courses for the 2020-2021 academic year. The advice of parents, teachers, and counselors should be utilized when choosing courses in order to ensure that students are properly placed to maximize the achievement of their abilities and talents and to prepare for their future. Students should not simply choose courses to meet requirements; rather they should take maximum advantage of the programs offered at Easton Area High School including: Advanced Placement, Honors, College Preparatory in all academic and some elective courses; Tech Prep Programs; Career Institute of Technology; and Diversified Occupations. Graduation Requirements Easton Area High School requires all students to earn 24.50 units between grades 9 and 12 to be awarded a diploma.     THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA MEETING OF THE SCHOOL REFORM COMMISSION MAY 29, 2014 A meeting was held by the School Reform Commission on May 29, 2014 in the Auditorium of the School District of Philadelphia Education Center, 440 North Broad Street. The meeting was convened at 5:37 p.m. by Chairman Green. Members present: Ms. Houstoun, Ms. Jimenez, Dr. Pritchett, Ms. Simms, Chairman Green – 5 Members Absent: 0 Michael A. Davis, General Counsel, announced that prior to today’s public meeting, the School Reform Commission met in Executive Sessions to discuss litigation, labor relations, investigations, quasi judicial matters and personnel matters. Mr. Davis also announced that the public hearing on the recommended nonrenewal of the charter for Arise Academy Charter High School has been completed. Formal action on the recommended nonrenewal shall be taken by the SRC at a future public meeting. Meanwhile, the public has at least thirty days to provide comments to the SRC beginning Friday, May 30, 2014 until Monday, July 7, 2014. Comments may be submitted in writing, addressed to the SRC, Suite 101, 440 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130, or by email, addressed to [email protected] . All comments received will be made part of the record of the nonrenewal hearing. Evelyn Sample-Oates, Chief, Family and Parental Engagement, provided the order of business for today’s meeting of the School Reform Commission. She also stated that the proceedings of today’s School Reform Commission meeting are being broadcast live on television and streamed live on the internet.
