  • Ludgvan Neighbourhood Plan Local Evidence Report January 2018
Ludgvan Neighbourhood Plan Local Evidence Report January 2018 Introduction Neighbourhood planning policy and proposals need to be based on a proper understanding of the place they relate to, if it they are to be relevant, realistic and to address local issues effectively. It is important that our Neighbourhood Plan is based on robust information and analysis of the local area; this is called the evidence base. Unless policy is based on firm evidence and proper community engagement, then it is more likely to reflect the assumptions and prejudices of those writing it than to reflect the needs of the wider area and community. This Local Evidence Report presents a topic by topic picture in facts, local opinions and aspirations of what the Parish of Ludgvan is all about in 2017/18, so as to provide the ‘evidence’ on which to base the development of the Ludgvan Neighbourhood Plan. We have used a variety of authoritative sources and recent survey material to put this Report together. To keep it relevant and accessible we have summarised information. Should the reader want more information or background we have provided links wherever possible to the source document. Inevitably we have not found all the information we sought. You are invited to contribute additional material to our evidence base. If you have any additional recent and relevant facts or can provide authoritative opinion about land use-related matters in Ludgvan Parish, please get in touch with the Parish Clerk at: [email protected] At the end of each topic section is a Key Messages box that includes messages discerned from evidence gathered and presented either in this report or the relevant Ludgvan Background Paper prepared by the NP Steering Group and available to view on the Ludgvan NP website1.

  • Marazion and District Community Plan 2007- 2027
Marazion and District Community Plan 2007- 2027 For the town of Marazion, and the parishes of St Hilary, Ludgvan, Perranuthnoe, and St Michaels’ Mount Marazion and District Forum (Incorporating the town of Marazion and the parishes of Ludgvan, Perranuthnoe, St Hilary and St Michael’s Mount) Marazion and District Community Plan 2 Foreword Welcome to the Marazion and District Community Plan This community strategic plan is the work of the Marazion and District Forum. We have prepared it because we care about our community: about the town and parishes, the people who live and work here, and the quality and beauty of our coastal and countryside environment. Researching and writing the plan represents a lot of work on the part of many members of the community, particularly those who completed our survey, those who attended our Prioritisation Day in February, and of course those who took part in our themed discussion groups. This plan responds to the issues you raised; I hope you will participate in its delivery. To those readers who represent the community at local and regional government level, and those of you representing other key agencies and organisations, this plan is significant in that it represents the concerns, issues and aspirations of the community; it is rooted in the community, being based on the findings from the extensive community survey we undertook during 2006/7, and consultations on specific topics during the summer of 2007. The plan describes our overall vision for our community in the future, and sets out goals that will help us realise that vision.

  • Mediæval Hedges in Cornwall
MEDIÆVAL HEDGES Cornish Hedges IN CORNWALL Library est 1994 www.cornishhedges.co.uk (AD450 – 1550) © Robin Menneer 2009. Revised 2019. Cornish culture threatened / open-field system / signs of open-fields today / the Norman conquest / burgage plots and stitches / common land / deer parks / the Black Death (1347-50) / after the Black Death. The period from the departure of the Romans to the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII, is often called the mediæval period. It spans the final eleven centuries of the Cornish people's running their own affairs, with an increasing settlement by the English into East Cornwall. During this period, Cornwall still had its own language, legal system, weights and measures and agriculture. The Magna Carta in 1215 confirmed that Cornwall was separate from England. The mediæval maps (up to 1538) show Cornwall as a nation of Britain and not as a county of England. Tin streaming continued, providing a continual demand for farm products which encouraged intensive agriculture and, thereby, good stockproof hedges. There is a written account, in the 7th century, of a ship from Alexandria that sailed to Britain with corn, and returned with a cargo of tin; corn prices were obviously good. This would have meant local farming prosperity and well-tended hedges. In the 9th century Cornish tin was being exported to Moscow through Germany and Austria, the traditional route through the Mediterranean having been disrupted by the Arab defeat of Byzantium in 655 AD. Many of the prehistoric gurgoes (relic hedges, pronounced gurjeys) vanished under the continuing mining activities, although some venerable ones have remained where they marked mineral boundaries.
