Pick your Poison: Gin & Dubonnet Happy 90th Birthday, and World Gin Day, your Majesty! “Let us not take ourselves too seriously. None of us has a monopoly on wisdom”. Queen Elizabeth II Her Majesty the Queen is 90 years old today and, to top off an already EPIC day, it is also World Gin Day!!! For me, this is even more exciting than Christmas and my birthday! In celebration of this momentous day, I have made our Liz’s tipple of choice and, funnily enough, it contains Gin! How good is that?! Lizzie is such a trendsetter, she was in on this Gin revolution long before any of us mere mortals were. It’s a simple drink – Gin & Dubonnet – but a great one, and The Queen is said to have one very day before Lunch. Technically, by drinking one of these every day, The Queen has over the recommended weekly allowance for alcohol here in the UK. She is now my hero, and has had a Gin every day and made it to 90 years old. I told you all Gin is medicinal… So, without further ado, here is the recipe for Gin & Dubonnet. Ingredients 25ml Gin (I used Silent Pool Gin) 50ml Dubonnet (Dubonnet is a type of Fortified Wine. It has Cherry, Qunine, Citrus and Toffee notes in it and, to me, this drink tastes a little bit like a spin on a Sangria!) A slice of Lemon Ice Method 1. Place the Gin and Dubonnet in a Cocktail shaker. -

Bar Fogo® at Home Fogo Caipirinha Brazil’s National Cocktail Serves 1 Ingredients 1 whole lime ice 2 Tablespoons white sugar lime wheel or stick of sugar cane 2 oz. Cachaça (garnish) Barware: Rocks glass, cocktail shaker, muddler, jigger Preparation 1. Cut lime in half and remove the core (this is the bitter part of the lime). 2. Slice the lime thinly and place in cocktail shaker with sugar. 3. Muddle lime and sugar to extract the natural juice of the lime. 4. Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add Cachaça. 5. Shake vigorously to dissolve sugar. 6. Pour drink into rocks glass. 7. Add lime wheel or stick of sugar cane to garnish, as desired. The seminar offers a rare occasion to compare different Mediterranean anises, neat and in preparation: Varnelli, as the best Italian dry anise, ouzo, arak, raki, anisado, and anisette. Mixologist Francesco Lafranconi - winner of the TOC 2009 Best Presenter Award- and Orietta Maria Varnelli, CEO of Distilleria Varnelli S.p.a., will transport attendees through an incredible historical and cultural journey, including an exclusive tasting of anise-based Varnelli’s liqueurs and aperitifs. Renowned mixologists from London, Anistatia Miller and Jared Brown, will bring their experience to the event as well. The program will include also a short yet suggestive cultural presentation about the FIRST American Chapter of the Ordre International des Anysetiers, with Members in Medieval attire that will revive the legend and traditions of the ancient guild of Anysetiers, founded in 1263 in France.
