Location : Subarnapur district is one of the Western located districts in Odisha. It lies between 83o27’ to 84o15’E longitude and between 20o30’ to 20o10’N latitude. It is bounded by the Sambalpur district in north, Boudh district in south, Anugul district in the east and Bolangir district in the west. 2. Climate : The climate condition of the district is generally hot with high humidity during March to May and cold during December to February. The monsoon generally breaks during the month of June. Annual rainfall of the district was 1009.8 M.M in 2011 which is less than the normal rainfall (1418.5 M.M). 3. Area and Population : The district has an area of 2337 sq.kms and 6.10 lakhs of population as per 2011 census. The district accounts for 1.50 percent of the states territory and shares 1.45 percent of the states population. The density of population of the district is 261 per sq. kms. as against 270 person per sq.km of the state. It has 959 villages (including 130 un-inhabited villages) covering 6 blocks 6 Tahasils and 2 Subdivisions. As per 2011 census the schedule caste population is 1,56,219 ( 25.60% ) and schedule tribe population 57,192 ( 9.40% ). The literacy percentage o the district covers 74.4 against 72.9 of the state. 4. Agriculture : During the year 2010-11, the net area sown was 106 thousand hectares against 4681 thousand hectares of the state. The production of paddy was 4673607 quintals, 673 quintals wheat, 278 quintals maize, 8519 quintals mung, 332 quintals biri, 4120 quintals kulthi, and 331 quintals til, 6129 quintals groundnuts, 229 quintals mustard, 797 quintals potatoes and 31503 quintals sugarcane.
