Location : Subarnapur district is one of the Western located districts in Odisha. It lies between 83o27’ to 84o15’E longitude and between 20o30’ to 20o10’N latitude. It is bounded by the Sambalpur district in north, Boudh district in south, Anugul district in the east and Bolangir district in the west. 2. Climate : The climate condition of the district is generally hot with high humidity during March to May and cold during December to February. The monsoon generally breaks during the month of June. Annual rainfall of the district was 1009.8 M.M in 2011 which is less than the normal rainfall (1418.5 M.M). 3. Area and Population : The district has an area of 2337 sq.kms and 6.10 lakhs of population as per 2011 census. The district accounts for 1.50 percent of the states territory and shares 1.45 percent of the states population. The density of population of the district is 261 per sq. kms. as against 270 person per sq.km of the state. It has 959 villages (including 130 un-inhabited villages) covering 6 blocks 6 Tahasils and 2 Subdivisions. As per 2011 census the schedule caste population is 1,56,219 ( 25.60% ) and schedule tribe population 57,192 ( 9.40% ). The literacy percentage o the district covers 74.4 against 72.9 of the state. 4. Agriculture : During the year 2010-11, the net area sown was 106 thousand hectares against 4681 thousand hectares of the state. The production of paddy was 4673607 quintals, 673 quintals wheat, 278 quintals maize, 8519 quintals mung, 332 quintals biri, 4120 quintals kulthi, and 331 quintals til, 6129 quintals groundnuts, 229 quintals mustard, 797 quintals potatoes and 31503 quintals sugarcane.

These women freedom fighters of western Odisha made momentous contribution to the freedom struggle by demonstrating their indomitable courage and unflinching patriotism. The district continues to depict a picture of chronic under development. The tribal and scheduled caste population remains disadvantaged social group in the district, In this district Gaisilat Block Map absolute poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition are fundamental form of deprivation in which seasonal migration of laborers takes place. About 69.9 percent of the rural families in Bargarh are below the poverty line; of this 41.13 percent are marginal farmers, 22.68 percent small farmers and 25.44 percent agricultural laborers. Bargarh district of Odisha is prone to frequent droughts which accentuate the poverty of the masses and forces the poor for migration. In our survey area in 19 Grampanchyats of Gaisilat Block of Bargarh District where DEBADATTA CLUB (DC) has been undertaken the survey and observed that in many villages of these western Orissa districts almost half of the families migrate out bag and baggage during drought years. Only old and infirm people under compulsion live in the village. All able-bodied males and females including small children move out to eke out their living either as contract workers in the brick kiln units or as independent wage workers/self-employed workers of the urban informal sector economy in relatively developed regions of the state and outside the state.

On a cold evening of the winter season, we visited the stonequery site and came to found a small frog jumping ahead our slow trekking motorcycle then we confirmed it as Variageted frog ( Ramnellavariegata).
