Dear Readers, At a time when hard copy print publications are rapidly disappearing in favor of the ipad, iphone, kindle or whatever the next device may be that replaces print...it’s comforting to know that there are venues that exist where we still cherish the hard copy printed word. You know what we’re talking about...that special time just before the curtain goes up at TPAC, Schermerhorn, The Franklin Theatre and the Martha Rivers Ingram Center for the Performing Arts at Vanderbilt. Clearly the performing arts venue setting is going to be the last bastion for print in America. If you or your is interested in advertising, please let us know. We offer a very unique advertising package that not only includes all seven publications listed below, but also our very popular newsstand annual guide, Nashville Arts & Entertainment. We are the only print publisher in Nashville that offers our advertisers newsstand exposure plus the finest venues where you have the confidence in knowing that your advertising message is actually being seen. No fast forwarding, no channel surfing, and no distractions before the curtain goes up...everyone is focused on their Playbill. We are thankful for all our readers and advertisers...couldn’t do it without you!

Untitled-1•2nd Prnt 2012-2013 1 TPAC.indd 7 11/20/127/6/12 10:56 8:52 AMAM Welcome to the Tennessee Performing ArTs CenTer /////////// by Kathleen W. O’Brien TPAC President and Chief Executive Officer

Have you heard about the exciting developments across the street from TPAC? That’s what I most want to share with you today.

As many of you know, we manage War Memorial Auditorium (WMA), the historic monument on Legislative Plaza. We are so proud of recent improvements here and so enthusiastic about upcoming plans for this important civic venue, which was dedicated in 1925 to honor the Tennesseans who served our country in World War I. You can experience its proud history in an excellent and short video on the brand new WMA website, wmarocks.com. Did you know the Grand Ole Opry performed there from 1939 to 1943 (and again following the 2010 flood)? Other celebrated artists who appeared there in the 20th century included , Bette Davis, Charlie Daniels, , KISS, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Barry Manilow, Greg Allman, and hundreds more. Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang are playing March 1, 2013, in a concert billed as “One Night: Two Guitar Legends.”

And then, an exclusive Nashville experience, there’s The Attic Sessions, an eclectic series of short films featuring music and interviews, notable local artists among them.

In short, TPAC staff share for this place – the storied history, the perfect acoustics, the sheer beauty, and the tremendous potential. As Roger LeBlanc, our new WMA talent buyer said: “The stage is big and brilliant. The acoustics are second-to-none. But what you really feel /////////// when you’re in the space is that history. And the room applies that grandeur onto the performer, whatever their personality. It can do anything.”

Have no doubt, history is still in the making at War Memorial Auditorium. I hope you’ll be a part of the ongoing adventures.

/////////// ///////////////////TPAC Supporters Honored Congratulations to Carl and Connie Haley (of Grand Avenue) and to Regions Bank for the high honors they recently received from the Nashville Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Haleys and Regions generously support TPAC Education and other organizations which serve our community. We are sincerely grateful for the difference they make.

///////////TPAC is on your side TPAC is one of more than 60 Tennessee organizations who have joined forces to stand up for the rights of ticket-buyers to sporting and entertainment events. Do you know that secondary ticket sellers (a.k.a. brokers or scalpers) buy tickets from places like TPAC and resell them to consumers at outrageous prices? For just one example: You can now buy a ticket for from a broker for $213. The same seat will cost you $73 through TPAC when the show goes on sale to the general public on February 8. When you buy from secondary sellers, you also risk purchase of an invalid ticket.

The simple act of donating the things that you no longer need means job training and opportunities for thousands of Tennesseans who have difficulty finding employment. Donate Today and Change a Life.
