If neither player advances to the final, then Serena Williams will claim the No.8 spot Last year’s champion Daria Kasatkina returns to her homeland to defend the title she won by coming from a set and break down to beat Ons Jabeur 12 months ago. The Russian faces a tricky start, after being paired with No.5 seed Dayana Yastremska World No.3 Elina Svitolina is top seed here, and after a opening round bye will face either Jabeur or the in-form Veronika Kudermetova Svetlana Kuzentsova, the champion here in 2015 and 2016, has drawn Karolina Muchova in the first round, with the winner going on to face No.4 seed Donna Vekic One to Watch – Veronika Kudermetova. The 22-year-old returns to her homeland fresh from another reputation-enhancing performance, advancing to the semifinals at Tianjin. This was the third time the young Russian has reached the last four at a tour event in 2019, having previously done so at ‘s- Hertogenbosch and Hiroshima. Kudermetova ended 2018 as the World No.115, but recently broke into the Top 50 and is now vying with Ekaterina Alexandrova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Kasatkina for the Russian No.1 ranking TOP 4 SEEDS’ TOURNAMENT HISTORY* PLAYER TOURNAMENT HISTORY W/L WIN % SF (1): 2016 (l.
