This waste mixes with millions of gallons of rainwater and flows untreated into local creeks, rivers and ponds - polluting our waterways, as well as degrading neighborhoods and other natural resources. Pick up after your pooch. Remind your neighbors to pick up after theirs. Good manners, great health policy.

Leashed Dogs and Cats on Trails At a City Council meeting in August, the Council approved to allow leashed dogs and cats on trails in the City of Asbury. Please be courteous and pick up after your pets on the trails.

SNOW Reminders The City of Asbury is reminding all residents during snow events to help ensure the success of winter snow removal operations.

Snow Emergencies: During snow events, the snowfall may require the City to issue a Snow Emergency. When a Snow Emergency is issued, residents are required to park on the odd numbered side of the street during odd numbered days and the even numbered side on even numbered days. If your vehicle is found parked on the wrong side of the street during a snow emergency, you will be issued a citation and a $10 fine. If the vehicle is not moved during the emergency, it will be towed away at the owner’s expense. Snow Emergencies are issued in order to give snow removal crews a chance to clear the streets.

Shoveling Sidewalks: It is the responsibility of the property owner to shovel their sidewalk and keep it clear of snow and ice. The property owner has up to 24 hours to remove snow and ice from their sidewalk. Failure to do so could result in the city assessing the property owner for the cost to have the snow and/or ice removed from their sidewalk.

It is also unlawful for anyone to throw, push or place any ice or snow from a private property, sidewalks or driveways onto the street.

This practice creates a hazardous condition for motorists and may require return trips by the snow plow to clean the street. Fines up to $750 per incident may be imposed for pushing snow into the street. Remove All Vehicles and Trailers from City Streets: Parked vehicles and trailers cause an interruption in snow removal. This requires more time that the Public Works Department will have to effectively clear the streets.

Clear Fire Hydrants: Clear snow from around fire hydrants. Residents are asked to clear any snow away from fire hydrants located on your property. IOWA CITY OF ASBURY
