3216 DRESS AND GROOMING

A public school employee and professional educator's role transcends the teaching/learning process within the classroom. School district employees are also role models for the pupils they encounter on a daily basis. As a role model, the school employee's influence upon the pupils is significant.

Teachers set an example in dress and grooming for their pupils to follow. A teacher who understands this precept and adheres to it enhances the importance of his/her task, presents an image of dignity and encourages respect for authority. These factors positively affect the maintenance of classroom discipline.

The Board retains the authority to specify dress and grooming guidelines for staff, within law, that will prevent such matters form having an adverse impact on the educational process.
