However, the pressures of his newfound fame, coupled with the echoes of his tumultuous childhood, conspire to bring Helfgott's latent schizophrenia boiling to the surface, and he spends years in and out of various mental institutions. Topsy Turvy (1999) - DVD​ - Set in the 1880s, the story of how, during a creative dry spell, the partnership of the legendary musical/theatrical writers Gilbert and Sullivan almost dissolves, before they turn it all around and write the Mikado. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Doss was drafted and ostracized by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but went on to earn respect and adoration for his bravery, selflessness and compassion after he risked his life -- without firing a shot -- to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa. Lost City of Z (2017) - DVD and BluRay and Book​ - At the dawn of the 20th century, British explorer Percy Fawcett journeys into the Amazon, where he discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Eddie the Eagle (2016) - DVD and BluRay​ - Cut from the Olympic ski team, British athlete Michael "Eddie" Edwards travels to Germany to test his skills at ski jumping. Fate leads him to Bronson Peary, a former ski jumper who now works as a snowplow driver. Impressed by Edwards' spirit and determination, Peary agrees to train the young underdog. Despite an entire nation counting him out, Eddie's never-say-die attitude takes him all the way to a historic and improbable showing at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta. Erin stumbles upon some medical records placed in real estate files. She convinces Ed to allow her to investigate, where she discovers a cover-up involving contaminated water in a local community which is causing devastating illnesses among its residents. Selena (1997) - DVD​ - In this biographical drama, Selena Quintanilla (Jennifer Lopez) is born into a musical Mexican-American family in Texas. Her father, Abraham (Edward James Olmos), realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez (Jon Seda), who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete. The Runaways (2010) - DVD​ - Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), two rebellious teenagers from Southern California, become the frontwomen for the Runaways -- the now-legendary group that paved the way for future generations of female rockers. Under the Svengali-like influence of impresario Kim Fowley, the band becomes a huge success, with Joan as the band's hard-rocking heart, and Cherie as the sex kitten. However, the teens' stormy relationship threatens the band's future. Love and Mercy (2014) - DVD​ - In the late 1960s, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson stops touring, produces "Pet Sounds" and begins to lose his grip on reality. Get on Up (2014) - DVD and BluRay​ - James Brown (Chadwick Boseman) was born in extreme poverty in 1933 South Carolina and survived abandonment, abuse and jail to become one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He joins a gospel group as a teenager, but the jazz and blues along the "chitlin' circuit" became his springboard to fame. Although his backup musicians came and went, Brown retained the ability to mesmerize audiences with his music, signature moves and energy. Steve Jobs (2015) - DVD and BluRay​ - Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution, to paint a portrait of the man at its epicenter. The story unfolds backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac. Spotlight (2015) - DVD and BluRay​ - ​In 2001, editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe assigns a team of journalists to investigate allegations against John Geoghan, an unfrocked priest accused of molesting more than 80 boys.

    FAITHFUL UNDER FIRE: A BIBLE STUDY AND DEVOTIONAL FOR THE FILM Introduction Hacksaw Ridge, a new film released by Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc., tells the story of Private First Class Desmond Doss, an Army medic who received the nation’s highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor. The MOH decoration is awarded only for conspicuous and personal acts of valor that are unequivocally deemed to be “above and beyond the call of duty.” Desmond Doss was the first conscientious objector to receive that award — and one of only three ever to do so in our Nation’s history. Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, had a personal, deeply held, biblically formed conviction not to kill — or even to carry a weapon. Nevertheless, he voluntarily enlisted in the Army in 1942 as a combat medic so as to fulfill his calling to serve both his country and his fellow soldiers by saving lives rather than taking them. But a significant part of Desmond’s story is the staunch resistance he faced in the U.S. Army — from both his superiors and fellow soldiers alike, who deemed his non-combatant stance to be a guise for cowardice. The manner in which Doss tenaciously holds-onto his Scripturally based beliefs and ultimately proves himself under the most excruciating and even barbaric combat conditions not only makes for gripping drama. It also confronts everyone who similarly holds biblical convictions in a pluralistic or secular “marketplace” with a challenging roadmap for living faithfully in this world as citizens of our Nation while reserving our highest allegiance to the Kingdom of God.

In schools, students sing songs to learn subjects like math, history, and English, and also to learn about general knowledge like the days of the week, months of the year, and presidents of the United States. With the amount of music that is available, it is not surprising that music has also made its way into movie theatres and has become one of the primary agents for conveying emotion and plot during a cinematic production.

He took his father’s prized pos- session — a BMW R60 motorcycle acquired after his service with the U.S. Marine Corps ended — out for a joyride one night without his father’s permission. He’d learned that if you stuck a nail into the ignition, the bike would start...and start it did. Being a freshman in high school, though, meant he didn’t have his license, which also meant he was riding it il- legally. The headlights weren’t work- ing either. He was chased by police, but eluded them, abandoned the mo- torcycle and made it back home. The police later called his father, inquiring if he owned a motorcycle. They’d recovered one involved in a high-speed chase. Ironically, police reported, there was no damage to the bike. The “thief” also properly parked it, leaving the kickstand in place. “That’s amazing,” his father told police. “I’ll be there in a minute.” He then addressed his family, including Tom Jr., who remembers barely be- ing able to look at him. “A thief stole my motorcycle,” he announced, “and there’s no damage to it.” It wasn’t until years later that Tom Jr. fessed up to his father, easing into the revelation with, “Remember when that guy stole your motorcycle?
