Postgame Quotes Nashville Predators vs. San Jose Sharks October 8, 2019 Nashville Predators Quotes Head Coach Peter Laviolette On Kyle Turris’s goal and it being a moment shifter... They pushed really good in the second period. I think coming out in the third period – good play by Rocco (Grimaldi) up the wall, Kyle came in on a 2-on-1 and made the right choice, made a heck of a shot. That was a big goal at the time. And then Fil (Filip Forsberg) and Duchy (Matt Duchene) following that up was good as well. It took some momentum for us to get back in the game. On the chemistry between Filip Forsberg and Matt Duchene… I see what you see – it looks good. They seem to find each other in the small areas out there; they seem to think the game the same way. I think Granny (Mikael Granlund) is a big part of that line as well with his work ethic and creativity. So far they’ve looked good. I think when you put something together you’d like to think it’s going to work but you’re not always sure. So far, it seems like it’s been a good combination. On Kyle Turris starting strong after a bad start last year… I think Kyle played well last game as well. His line was really good. Those three players are capable of creating offense. They’re reliable players and good at creative offense. Like you said, it was a big goal at the time. I think offensive players do feed off of that with confidence. I hope that line continues to produce because I liked them a lot last game and they scored a big goal for us tonight. On the Predators scoring 13 goals in three games and if he expected the goals to come as quickly as they have… Well, there’s a couple empty netters in there too. I think we’re doing the right things offensively. In the second period I thought we turned the puck over a little too much. That’s another fine line that we have to be careful of. I talked about what the problem was last game with continuing to attack and forecheck when we should pull out and play defense. Tonight, I think we exposed the puck a little bit too much in the second period and from that they were able to turn it over and pound us in our end, and we had tired players on the ice and they took advantage of it. Just making sure that we take care of the puck as well. We can’t always create but it’s certainly nice to see the offense and the goals and the guys working hard to create. Forward Matt Duchene On his thoughts on the game… It was great. I thought (San Jose) had some pushes. They're a really good team; they were a team that went really far last year. I thought we were a better defensive team than they were all around. It’s a tough team to play against and be as dynamic offensively, but we were able to score. I thought we did some really good things and we had some big nights from a lot of guys. That’s what it takes, have a lot of guys step up each night. On building chemistry with new linemates Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund… There are two things. I think there’s what happens naturally – and that’s been clicking. But then I think all three of us are all guys that want to get better as players and are all guys that love the game and love to talk the game, and we’ve talked lots. I think we have a game plan every time we go out there against depending on who we are playing and all three of us are buying into the same thing. We’re all on the same page and that’s kind of what it takes. We don’t have anyone that’s kind of going on their own page. Those two guys are great to talk to, great guys to toss around ideas with. We’re getting some good results right now. On what he remembers about playing against Filip Forsberg when he was with Colorado, Ottawa and Columbus… Not just when he first came in, but just the whole way along, he’s such a dynamic player. Great shooter. I knew his shot was good, but his shot is even better than I thought it was. He’s a guy that when he gets in those areas it’s pretty automatic. If I don’t have a good look at the net, that’s who I’m looking for. Granny (Granlund) can score, too. He can make so many good passes so it’s fun to play with those guys. Forward Filip Forsberg On working together with a new line… You never know with a new player. Granny (Granlund), it’s my first time playing with him too, and I think we all think hockey the same way. We all want to attack the game. Both those guys are great skaters, great with the puck. Kind of what I’m doing, but not as fast as those guys. We like to hold onto it and we all see the game the same way and I think that helps. On having 13 goals as a team in three games… We have four lines and six defensemen every night that can score goals for us, and that’s a strength. Today, I thought defense was a lot better than the last game we played and that’s still a priority, but we are dangerous up front. On bouncing back from the one loss… It’s huge. You can’t really win the season at the start, but you can definitely lose it if you fall back too far, so it was a big win for us. On the steps to build chemistry with linemates… Just time. Just skating together in practice, talking a lot. Duchy (Matt Duchene) loves to talk about the game. I think we’re similar in that way. Granny is a little more quiet, but you can see he’s catching on really well out there too. Communication is huge and practices are big too. San Jose Quotes Head Coach Peter DeBoer On not getting momentum despite the work ethic being there… This is a league where you have to combine work ethic with a smart game. I think we made a few glaring mistakes. The ones we made, they stuck in the back of the net, and that’s what a good team will do to you. I think we played from behind a lot of the night, again. That’s been kind of a theme, which is tough. I did see some good signs from a compete point of view. We’re starting to find what our game should look like. Tonight was the first night I really saw it for longer stretches than I had so far. We have to be smarter too. On how much of a boost Patrick Marleau can give… I think he can give us a boost. He’s an experienced guy. He’s not going to panic under pressure. He’s going to make the right plays. A big, strong guy. I think he fits with how we want to play. We’ll see where he’s at. He hasn’t been through training camp or anything. We’ll see where his conditioning and stuff is at. There’s no doubt he can help us. On how much he knew about the acquisition of Marleau… (General Manager) Doug (Wilson) and I talk every day. We wanted to give the young guys in the organization a good look, and that’s one thing everyone has had, is an opportunity here. I think you combine that with some of the injuries and things that we’ve dealt with. This is a league that you need depth in order to survive, so it’s nice to have him. On the emotional jolt Marleau can bring… I think the guys know. He’s a great player and we’re adding another quality player to the dressing room. So, for sure that’s a boost. Defenseman Erik Karlsson On not taking the simple play and feeding into the Predators’ game plan… When things are not going your way, you try to do a little too much. I think that today, we had a longer period of time when we were controlling the play and playing the way we want. Again, I don’t think we started the way that we wanted. We were on our heels a little bit too much for the most part of the game. But again, sometimes you try to overdo things when it’s not going your way. I think that’s our issue right now. The group felt we still know how to play hockey for the most part of it. Hopefully, we can get that going a little bit and clean some of the small things up. But again, we can’t be afraid to make mistakes out there. That’s going to happen, no matter how good of a team you are. We’re still going to believe in the type of team that we want to be and believe in ourselves and keep building on the foundation that we’ve had that took us this far.
