Mandy is starring in the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” and is best known for her emotional portrayal of Nina Rosario in the Tony Award winning, Lin-Manuel Miranda Broadway musical In the Heights, a role she originally created Off Broadway at 37 Arts, which received a Drama Desk Award for Best Ensemble. She starred as Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked, blowing the roof off of New York’s Gershwin Theatre each night as she belted out signature song “Defying Gravity” and for which she was rewarded with a Broadway.com Award Mandy Gonzalez for Best Replacement. Other Broadway roles include Princess Amneris in the Elton John and Tim Rice musical Aida and the Broadway show Lennon where she portrayed multiple roles including that of Beatles’ icon John Lennon. Mandy made her Broadway debut in Jim Steinman’s Dance of the Vampires starring opposite Michael Crawford. Mandy received an OBIE Award and overwhelming critical praise for her performance in the Off- Broadway production of Eli’s Comin’, directed by Diane Paulus and based on the music and lyrics of renowned singer-songwriter Laura Nyro. Equally at home on the big and small screen, she has appeared in Across the Universe directed by Julie Taymor, After starring opposite Pablo Schreiber and Man on a Ledge with Sam Worthington. Most recently, Mandy had a recurring role on the ABC drama thriller Quantico. On Sunday evenings, television viewers can find her working at The White House on the CBS breakout hit Madam Secretary. Mandy can be heard as the voice of Mei in Disney’s Mulan 2 and on recordings of the original Broadway cast album of In the Heights, Kerrigan-Lowdermilk Live and The Man Who Would Be King. .

History oF arena Stage: Where American Theater Lives The Mead Center for American Theater Arena Stage was founded August 16, 1950 in Washington, D.C. by Zelda Fichandler, Tom Fichandler and Edward Mangum. Over 65 years later, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director Molly Smith and Executive Director Edgar Dobie, is a national center dedicated to American voices and artists. Arena Stage produces plays of all that is passionate, profound, deep and dangerous in the American spirit, and presents diverse and ground- breaking work from some of the best artists around the country. Arena Stage is committed to commissioning and developing new plays and impacts the lives of over 10,000 students annually through its work in community engagement. Now in its seventh decade, Arena Stage serves a diverse annual audience of more than 300,000. When Zelda and Tom Fichandler and a handful of friends started Arena Stage, there was no regional theater movement in the United States or resources to support a theater committed to providing quality work for its community. It took time for the idea of regional theater to take root, but the Fichandlers, together with the people of the nation’s capital, worked patiently to build the fledgling theater into a diverse, multifaceted, internationally renowned institution. Likewise, there were no professional theaters operating in Washington, D.C. in 1950. Actors’ Equity rules did not permit its members to perform in segregated houses, and neither The National nor Ford’s Theatre was integrated. From its inception, Arena opened its doors to anyone who wished to buy a ticket, becoming the first integrated theater in this city.

CAST BIOGRAPHIES MICHAEL SHANNON (Gary Noesner) Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and Tony Award® nominated actor Michael Shannon continues to make his mark in entertainment, working with the industry's most respected talent and treading the boards in notable theaters around the world. Shannon will next be seen in Guillermo del Toro's The Shape of Water, a love story set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America. The film co-stars Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer. Fox Searchlight will release the film December 2017. In 2018, Shannon will return to Red Orchard Theatre for its 25th Anniversary to direct the world premiere of Traitor, Brett Neveu's adaption of Henrik Ibsen's Enemy of the People. Traitor will include ensemble members Dado, Larry Grimm, Danny McCarthy, Guy Van Swearingen and Natalie West and will run from January 5, 2018 through February 25, 2018. Back on the big screen, Shannon will then be seen in the Nicolai Fuglsig’s 12 Strong opposite Chris Hemsworth. The project follows a team of CIA agents and special forces who head into Afghanistan in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in an attempt to dismantle the Taliban. Warner Brothers is releaseing the film in January 2018. Later next year, Shannon will also be seen in writer-director Elizabeth Chomko’s drama, What They Had, opposite Hilary Swank. The story centers on a woman who must fly back to her hometown when her Alzheimer's-stricken mother wanders into a blizzard and the return home forces her to confront her past, which includes her brother (Shannon).

One might just grow up to win awards and electrify the Broadway stage in New York. At a General Services Christmas party at Piper Tech in the early 1990s, Paul Gonzalez, Warehouse Worker, General Services, brought his young daughter, Mandy, in to sing selections from Disney’s The Little Mermaid, accompanied by a karaoke machine. That very same Mandy Gonzalez is now one of Broadway’s brightest lights, having starred in five Broadway musicals, including the ground- breaking In the Heights. Before that, she won an Obie Award for Eli’s Coming, her first perform- ance Off-Broadway. Currently you can catch her playing Elphaba in the wickedly popular Wicked. “I remember him waking up before dawn and kissing me goodbye while I was still half asleep,” Mandy said from New York of her memories growing up in a City Employee household. “When we had a day off from school, we would go and meet him for lunch, and he would take us downtown. Every time we would drive by his work on the weekends, he would always point out the helicopters that were land- ing on top of the building. I remember thinking Mandy Gonzalez took over the role of Elphaba in Wicked how amazing that was.
