“Everything that you provided for us was high quality and allowed us to really enjoy our experi- ence while also feeling safe and confident that things would go well. We are already talking about the next time.” — David & Karen

“We had a wonderful time! All the equipment was in perfect shape. The food was great, the bunk house was so clean! Thanks so much for the routing advice, with Renee and I in our 50s and going on our first canoe trip together, we went on a perfect route that was not too strenuous, but that gave us an excellent trip. The people that work at Seagull were so very friendly, helpful and fun to spend time with!” — Paul

“I especially appreciated your flexibility shown by encouraging us to switch over and try fishing Seagull. I still can’t believe that one of the staff even bailed out our boat before we arrived to fish on Friday morning (and one of the guys actually offered to clean some fish for me too)! You run a really first-class operation!” — Rick A World of Quiet Adventure The Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Minnesota and the of Canada are two-million acre wilderness areas set aside for you to enjoy solely by way of canoe. There are no roads, or power lines, or motor- ized craft allowed inside these pristine areas. No one lives in these areas so you will share it only with a handful of other canoeists. It is an area of pine forests, crystal clear lakes, and high granite cliffs... where moose roam the woods, bald eagles soar overhead, and loons beckon to you from the lake. The canoe country offers you the finest freshwater fishing in North America. Anglers from all over the country come here seeking the abundant walleye, lake trout, smallmouth bass, and that inhabit these waters. Experience and Tradition Seagull Outfitters is owned and operated by Debbie Mark. Debbie has grown up in the outfitting busi- ness on the Gunflint Trail, and has paddled, fished, and explored the best routes of the canoe country. The Seagull Outfitters team is committed to providing quality guidance and service to you, our guests. Customized Outfitting & Personalized Service At Seagull Canoe Outfitters Debbie and the Seagull staff will help you enjoy the canoe country wilder- ness by custom designing a canoe trip to suit your needs. Using our years of knowl- edge and experience we’ll design exactly the right trip for beginners, families, seniors, anglers, photog- raphers, wildlife observers, or those wanting a little of everything. We’ll help you in trip planning, entry points, packing and other important details.

Take Our Advice... The cooler months of May and June offer the best fishing, with warmer July promising plentiful smallmouth and trophy walleyes. August is gener- ally very warm and ideal for catching those record smallmouth and pike. Refreshing September offers great smallmouth fishing plus the added splendor of nature’s beautiful fall colors.

Early reservations are strongly recommended so you may travel in the area that is best for you. More permits are available during midweek. Party size is restricted to nine in the Boundary Waters and nine in the Quetico. Each party must have a permit. Both sides of the border charge user or camping fees, and a Remote Border Crossing Permit is required to enter Canada’s Quetico Park.

“Thanks again for making our annual paddling trip so enjoyable. We had a great time in the Man Chain loop. As usual, your accommodations, gear, and staff are the absolute best! We especially appreciated an unsolicited offer from two members of your team to tie down our canoe to our car after our return. Thanks again from all of us. Wish we were still up there with you!” — Linda Now That You’re Coming... We will confirm your reservation, reserve your permit, and send along more information to help you plan your trip.

For the night before your trip, you may want to stay in the beautiful harbor village of Grand Marais, or you may request one of the private rooms in our paddlers’ lodge.

Upon your arrival at Seagull Outfitters, we will go over your route, mark it on your waterproof maps, show you the food and equipment in your package, and answer any questions you have about your trip. Then your wilderness adventure begins!

You will end your canoe trip by meeting us at a canoe landing, paddling to our dock, or meeting one of our launch boats on the lake. A cold drink and a hot shower will await you!

Why Seagull Outfitters? Seagull Canoe Outfitters is very much a hands-on operation. Debbie Mark is more than just the owner and manager…she is also an experienced canoeist who has paddled these routes many times over the years. She and her staff use their first-hand informa- tion to advise you on the details of your trip, and will make sure that all your needs are taken care of.

For someone who’s not been on a wilderness canoe trip before, the idea can be somewhat intimidating. We want to do everything in our power to remove that thought from your mind and make you as prepared as possible for what you’ll encounter.

The last place you want to be if you’re unprepared is on a wilderness canoe trip. And we’ve heard horror stories from many of our converted customers who weren’t altogether happy with a previous trip through another outfit. We understand this and take every action to make sure you are well pre- pared. We double check our packs to ensure you have all of your equipment needed for your trip. We take the extra time and make the extra effort to make sure you feel comfortable before paddling away. And we’ll share all of our knowledge with you to see to it that your trip is a success, because in the end, our success depends on yours.

At Seagull Canoe Outfitters, all equipment and gear is the finest available. For example, we upgraded all cook kits from aluminum to stainless steel, and added small cutting boards. This level of attention to detail is one of the hallmarks of service at Seagull Canoe Outfitters. Our referral and repeat business rate is 75 to 80%, which is considered outstanding for this business.

We have the experience as our knowledge dates back to the 1960s. And we’re happy to share it with you. Come and find the hidden treasures of the boundary waters without all the searching.

How to find us… The Boundary Waters Canoe Area sits atop the state of Minnesota in the northeast corner known as the Arrowhead Region. Quetico Park, part of southern , adjoins the Boundary Waters at the border. Many mid-westerners drive to our place via Minneapolis and Duluth-Superior. Our flying guests generally rent a car in Duluth or Minneapolis for the fabulous drive up Lake Superior’s north shore to Grand Marais. This scenic harbor town will be your jumping off point into the wilderness. The Gunflint Trail, now a paved road, takes you deep into the heart of the canoe country and to our doorstep. Our base, on Seagull Lake, is your best bet for easy access to both the Boundary Waters and the Quetico Park. We are located 55 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais. Activities During Your Cabin Stay Wildlife is abundant on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Moose, otters, loons, beaver, mink, and bald eagles are commonly seen near your cabin. Canoeing starts right from the dock, as all cab- ins are adjacent to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. You may also explore the area on day trips, by taking the canoe on your vehicle to several nearby entry points into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Walking, hiking, and jogging take you through the beautiful area surrounding Seagull and Saganaga lakes. Berry picking, mountain biking, bird watching, and nature photography are favorite activities of many of our guests. Swimming may be done at our dock, and cookouts are a great favorite at any of the nearby BWCA campgrounds. Fishing for walleye, smallmouth bass, trout, and northern pike is a favorite activity of our cabin guests. Saganaga Lake is a trophy walleye lake in the state of Minnesota, and it’s right outside your door. If you’re interested in cutting to the chase, hire a guide; we’ll be happy to help arrange for one of our local experts to guide you to the best fishing in the Boundary Waters. Catch and release is popular, and encouraged, but be sure and save a couple smaller fish for a tasty and memorable shore lunch or dinner. “I selected your service in order to do everything I could to ensure that my 15-year-old son had a pleasant first-time experience in the Boundary Waters. You had everything that we needed in regards to food, tent, and supplies and were extremely helpful in our selecting fishing locations as well as the overall trip planning. (We caught about 30 walleyes in three days and only two of them were under 20 inches!).” — Bill

“We noted the extra things you did to make our stay enjoyable, including clean showers and tow- els upon our return, cold drinks while sorting our gear, and coffee mugs for each of us. Thanks again for a terrific trip!” — Mike

“Thank you for all your help in making our first trip to the Boundary Waters a Great Trip. With all my calls and e-mails, you always had an answer or an idea for me with a smile. All of your staff had smiles. I talked to four Outfitters and you were the most friendly so I chose you and am very glad I did.” — John Seagull Outfitters Telephone: 1-218-388-2216 12208 Gunflint Trail Reservations: 1-800-346-2205 Grand Marais, MN 55604 Email Address: [email protected]
