Minor League Report September 18, 2017 | Organizational Record: 491-325 (.602) SCRANTON/WILKES- RECORD: 86-55 BARRE RAILRIDERS PLACE: 1ST END OF SEASON • The RailRiders fell to Durham, three games to one, in the Governor’s Cup Finals…marked the seventh time in franchise history that Scranton/WB reached the final round…despite the loss, the RailRiders posted the IL’s best 2017 overall record at 86-55 (.610). • Scranton pitchers collectively ranked in the league’s top three in ERA (3.33, first), WHIP (1.19, first) hits allowed (1,079, first) and strikeouts (1249, second). • OF Jake Cave hit 20HR between Scranton/WB and Double-A Trenton…owned the IL’s second longest hitting streak of the season (19G). • INF Miguel Andujar ranked in the top three among all Yankees minor leaguers in BA (.315, first), hits (151, first), SLG (.498, second) and RBI (82, third). • OF Billy McKinney batted .306 (64-for-209) with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 10HR and 35RBI in 55G after his promotion from Trenton on 7/1. • INF Tyler Wade ranked within the league’s top three in average (.310, first), OBP (.382, third) and stolen bases (26, third)…recorded an 18G hitting streak from 5/31-6/18, hitting .419 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 2HR and 8RBI during the streak. • RHP Chance Adams led all Yankees minor leaguers in wins (15) and ranked second in ERA (2.45) and BAA (.193) • Manager Al Pedrique was once again named “Manager of the Year,” becoming the fourth manager in IL history to win the award in consecutive seasons. RECORD: 92-48 TRENTON THUNDER PLACE: 1ST END OF SEASON • Trenton reached the Eastern League Championship Series for the seventh time in franchise history, falling to Altoona, three games to none…posted a 92-48 mark, matching a franchise record for wins (last in 1999)…their .657 winning percentage marked the highest in franchise history. • Trenton pitchers led the Eastern League with a collective 2.83 ERA, the lowest in franchise history and fourth-lowest among full-season clubs in 2017…led the league in strikeouts (1,160K) and tied for first in the league with a franchise-best 20 shutouts on the year. • Trenton batters combined to lead the league in triples (44), ranking second in runs (659) and tying for second in BA (.264) • INF Thairo Estrada ranked second among all Yankees minor leaguers in hits (149)…tied for fourth in the league in runs (72) and ranked sixth in BA (.301). • 1B Mike Ford hit a career-high 20HR between the Thunder and Triple-A Scranton/WB…paced the league in OBP (.410) and walks (76). • RHP Domingo Acevedo went 5-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 14GS for the Thunder…ranked second among all Yankees farmhands with 142K. • Manager Bobby Mitchell was voted the Eastern League’s Manager of the Year for the 2017 season, the third Thunder manager to earn the honor. 1ST HALF: 39-31 (1ST) 2ND HALF: 46-19 TAMPA YANKEES PLACE: 1ST END OF SEASON • The 2017 Tampa Yankees fell to the Dunedin Blue Jays in a best-of-three series in the semifinals of the Florida State League Playoffs…despite falling short of repeating as League Champions, Tampa enjoyed a historic 2017 season…tallied a franchise-record 85 wins, while their pitchers collected 1,215 strikeouts to establish a Florida State League single-season record. • INF Nick Solak was named a Florida State League Post-Season All-Star…he batted .301/.397/.460 (104-for-346) with 56R, 17 doubles, 4 triples, 10HR, 44RBI and 53BB in 100 games with Tampa in 2017…is ranked as the Yankees’ No.9 overall best prospect by MLB.com. • Manager Jay Bell earned the Florida State League’s “Manager of the Year” award after guiding Tampa to both the First and Second Half North Division titles…marks the second consecutive season that a Tampa manager has earned the title, after Pat Osborn was selected 2016. 1ST HALF: 34-36 (5TH) CHARLESTON 2ND HALF: 42-27 RIVERDOGS PLACE: 1ST END OF SEASON • The Charleston RiverDogs finished 76-63 in 2017 and won the South Atlantic League Southern Division…fell to the Greenville Drive in a best- of-three series in the SAL Division series…marked the first time the RiverDogs appeared in the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since 2004-05. • OF Isiah Gilliam led the team in runs (80), doubles (33), HR (15) and RBI (85)…ranked second in the South Atlantic League in runs and RBI, and third in doubles…earned South Atlantic League “Player of the Week” honors three times this season, the only player in the league to earn the honor multiple times…tallied 53 of his 85 RBI in the second half of the season, the most in the league over that span. • OF Estevan Florial ranked fourth among Yankees minor leaguers in both hits (125) and SLG (.479)…reached base safely in 18 of his 20G during the month of June, batting .378/.459/.635 (28-for-74) with 13R, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 4HR, 14RBI, 10BB and 4SB…was named to the South Atlantic League 2017 Postseason All-Star team as the league’s “Most Outstanding Major League Prospect.” STATEN ISLAND RECORD: 46-29 YANKEES PLACE: 1ST END OF SEASON • Staten Island dropped the decisive Game 3 of their best-of-three, New York-Penn League Semifinal series against Hudson Valley, 7-1, on 9/12 and were eliminated from the playoffs…the Yankees went 46-29 during the regular season, posting their highest win total since 2009 (47-29)… marked the third straight year the team made it to the postseason. • Staten Island pitchers led the New York-Penn League with a collective 2.64 ERA, the team’s best ERA since 2009 (2.53)…also led the league in shutouts with 11 on the year, the most in the NYPL since 2010 (Auburn, 12)…surrendered the fewest hits (499) and runs (232R, 188ER) in the league and recorded the second most strikeouts on the season (702)…also owned the best WHIP in the league (1.10), the best in the NYPL since 2012. • RHP Jorge Guzman led the NYPL with a career high in strikeouts (88), ranked fifth in WHIP (1.04) and sixth in the league in ERA (2.30)…Staten Island won four of the last five regular season games that he started. • SS Wilkerman Garcia led the team in hits (57) and runs (27), tied for second in doubles (10) and third in triples (3) and tied for first in stolen bases (8) during the regular season. RECORD: 41-26 PULASKI YANKEES PLACE: 2ND END OF SEASON • The 2017 Pulaski Yankees fell to the Elizabethton Twins in a best-of-three series in the Appalachian League Championship finals, 2-1…finished second in the Appalachian League East Division with a record of 41-26, qualifying for the playoffs for the second time in three seasons as an affiliate of the Yankees. • 1B Eric Wagaman, the Yankees’ 13th Round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft, batted .368 (7-for-19) with 4R, 2 doubles, 2HR, 4RBI and 2BB over 5G during Pulaski’s playoff run. • INF Ricky Surum batted .429 (6-for-14) with 3 doubles, 1HR and 3RBI over 4G in the postseason, leading the team with a 1.324 OPS. • Pulaski pitchers finished first in the Appalachian League in strikeouts (654) , second in saves (24) and wins (41) and fourth in ERA (4.20) and WHIP (1.35). • Pulaski skipper Luis Dorante was named App. League “Manager of the Year” while General Manager Blair Hoke was named the league’s “Executive of the Year” after a 2017 which saw Pulaski draw a league-high 77,880 fans. PLACE: 1ST GCL YANKEES EAST RECORD: 33-27 END OF SEASON • The GCL Yankees East defeated the GCL Nationals in a best-of-three series to capture the 2017 Gulf Coast League Championship…marked the 12th time a Yankees affiliate has been crowned champion of the Gulf Coast League and the first since 2011. • OF Canaan Smith, the Yankees Fourth Round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft, was named to the 2017 Gulf Coast League Postseason All-Star Team…batted .289/.430/.422 (54-for-187) with 5HR and 28RBI over 57G…led the GCL in walks (46) ), ranked fourth in OBP (.430), fifth in OPS (.853), sixth in HR (5) and eighth in hits (54)…led the GCL Yankees East in BA (.289 , 54-for-187), runs (29), HR (5) and RBI (28). • SS Jose Devers led the team with 15SB (18 attempts), a total that ranked fourth in the GCL. • LHP Tony Hernandez ranked fifth in the GCL with 3.44 ERA (52.1IP, 20ER) and sixth with 52.1IP. • RHP Luis Rijo ranked second in the GCL in strikeouts (55) fourth in IP (54.0) and WHIP (1.11), and ranked seventh in ERA (3.50). • GCL Yankees East pitchers led the GCL in shutouts (7) and ranked fourth in ERA (3.18) and fifth in strikeouts (443). RECORD: 32-27 GCL YANKEES WEST PLACE: 3RD END OF SEASON • The 2017 GCL Yankees West finished in third place in the GCL Northwest Division with a 32-27 record and did not qualify for the playoffs. • OF Jordan Scott finished second in the GCL with 7HR in just 32G before his promotion to Single-A Tampa on 8/27…his .519 batting average matched the highest in the league, but did not qualify for a batting title.
