Key Roles You Need To Know!

Most of you are probably aware of who Ian is. Under the previous government we had School Sports Partnership and Ian was the manager of the Points Partnership. Points Learning When the funding for the partnerships was withdrawn IAN SPOONER Network Manager Ian looked to keep our Partnership together via the now named Points Learning Network. Through the Network you are entitled to a whole host of services.

Helen works with Westfield in a consultancy capacity but Points Learning will mainly be involved with schools in her role with the Network Strategic Points Learning Network. She is very involved in helping HELEN STEVENS Manager / schools with their spend and monitoring their Consultant programme.

Andy has been charged with running the School Games Finals for the Network and corresponding with the other School Games partnerships across the county in organising South ANDY STALEY Organiser Yorkshire Finals in many sports. Andy and David work very closely to allow the schools within the Westfield area opportunity to enter School Games Competitions.

Richard is very well known and very well respected in the community. Just to clarify, Richard works mainly for the Points Learning Network as a coach now. Though he specialises in badminton, he has the ability to coach Sports Coach RICHARD MILLS across a whole hosts of sports. He can coach in PE curriculum time and after school. He can be a useful resource in the build up to a Festival whether it be a Westfield event or in association with the School Games.

I am now entering my 7th year in the capacity of Schools Competition Organiser. This year I will be working with KS1 and KS2 TWO days a week. In the School Games Structure I was given a one day secondment with the remit of increasing Competitions, Festivals and Sporting Opportunities in and around our cluster. I believe we have been relatively successful in doing so. I work with a Schools team of selected students at Westfield (Sports Leaders) Competition to provide a range of competitions and festivals to KS1 Organiser, DAVID MILLNS and KS2 students. Some of the competitions offered fit Specialist PE into the School Games structure (planned by Andy Staley) Teacher allowing the wining schools to progress further in a national competition structure. My second day is working solely for the Points Learning Network delivering project work in schools as a Trained Specialist Physical Education Teacher. This ranges from staff CPD to student leadership training. This time must be booked through Helen Stevens and Ian Spooner. How It All Fits Together

You will keep seeing key terms and names of organisations. Here’s a run down about each one and how it all links together for your benefit. Points Learning Network Points Learning Network is a private organisation which many of you may have bought into. Schools buy into the network of schools and receive a Core Offer. The Core Offer can be made up of whatever you feel is needed on an educational front at your school. This may be coaches to deliver curriculum time, resources or CPD. Ian Spooner is the Manager or the Network. The biggest way in which the Network can link to what Westfield are doing and School Games is schools can use the Core Offer to get support for their students in preparation for Festivals and events. E.g. they may choose to enter a Badminton Festival, so why not use the Core Offer to get a Badminton Coach in to help in the preparation.

The Westfield Offer Westfield strive to offer as much opportunity as possible for the family of schools to come and compete using the Westfield Facilities. The school also strive to develop Young Leaders and allow them to interact with primary age children to aid transition and build closer links within the community. To achieve these aims, each school is sent an offer of competition and festivals at the start of each year and entry information for each event as it approaches. I (David Millns) am responsible for making this offer to all schools. All each school within the family has to do is commit to taking part and enter where possible. The Westfield offer is made up of both community based events where enjoyment and participation are the driving forces and School Games events where whilst enjoyment is absolutely paramount, progressing to a further stage is possible. Andy Staley is aware of where the School Games fits in.

School Games School Games is a national initiative. It is a competition structure that allows progression from the earliest stage of local competition right through to National Championships. Some of what I (David Millns) organise through the Westfield Offer fits into the School Games structure. There may be other sports within the School Games that you are interested in but Westfield are not offering competitions in that field. It is Andy Staley’s responsibility to help you enter any sport you wish. All each schools needs to do is register on the School Games Website and commit to the competitions they wish to enter. Key Contacts Currently Being Used.

Some schools seem concerned that they are not receiving the information about each festival/event/opportunity. Here are a list of PE contacts that is being used at present.

In addition to the Sporting Offer, I (David Millns) can help in other ways also. This is especially true now I work an extra day each week with the Points Learning Network. I want to utilise all my time available and can perhaps help in these ways.

SECONDED – TUESDAYS/FRIDAYS Whole Family Events

I truly believe we have a unique family of schools. Upon speaking to my colleagues across the city, it seems we are special in the sense we take part in a whole host of events together. I love the events where we all take part at the same time – this truly brings us together. In the past we have had the Olympic Torch relay, The Change4Life Festival and the first ever family of Schools Athletics Competition. Let’s make this year brilliant and really commit to our: FULL FAMILY OF SCHOOLS EVENTS.

24th October Family of 1/2/3/4/5/6 Rother Valley 10:00-12:30pm Schools Student Country Park Council Event – Activity Day

3rd May Westfield 1/2/3/4/5/6 Westfield 6:00-7:30pm Community School Main Dance Show Hall

8th June Family of 1/2/3/4/5/6 Westfield 2:00-5:30pm Schools School Field Athletics Festival The Points Network Games

2017 saw the biggest ever Points Network Games with over 1400 children in attendance. Some of our family of schools are already engaged in this but others aren't. I want all of the Westfield Cluster to know exactly what the games is all about.

Held in April at the English Institute of Sport, schools are invited to bring a class of 30. Each class is then split into 3 teams who take part in an intra school competition across 13 different sports. The winning team from that given school then go head to head against 12 other schools to be Points Champions. Next year will be the 14th event of it’s kind and it goes from strength to strength.

13 DIFFERENT SPORTS IN SHEFFIELD’S FINEST VENUE. OVER 1400 CHILDREN TAKING PART FROM ACROSS THE CITY. OVER 20 Y5 YOUNG LEADERS DOING A GREAT JOB. ARE YOU INTERESTED?

It was great to see the following schools there last year: Brook House, Waterthorpe, Halfway Infants, Shortbrook, Mosborough, Beighton Infants.
