Afternoon All

The FA Cup is back!!!!!! A time of year that we all enjoy, with the outcome unknown but we can all dream.

It gives us a nice little break from the league after a strong bank holiday weekend from the boys.

The draw for us is not an easy one, we could have had opposition from a lower division at this stage but it is what it is. Regardless we’re confident we’ve got what it takes to take us through to the next round.

Swindon Supermarine look strong this season so we know it’ll be a hard fought game & they’ll come here thinking they can get something from the game. Let’s get behind the boys and make this home draw count!!! Lastly a special mention to young Sean Wright ‘..a special who came on for me last Monday in our win & did fantastically well, not only that but scored the winner too. Love to see it!! mention to Up the dolphins!! young Sean Whisk Wright .. ’ Jamie Whisken Team Captain

Poole Town FC v Swindon Supermarine FC | 10 Chaplain’s Corner

Welcome to today’s game and to our visitors from Swindon, we hope you have a safe trip home.

Over the summer, I enjoyed reading a book containing the early history of the Supermarine company – ‘The Spitfire Kids’ by Alasdair Cross was an excellent read. It explained how Supermarine developed from its early days in Southampton to being geographically dispersed.

It got me to thinking about how our lives often follow a path which we could never have predicted. I get regular reminders of this when I take funerals, hearing from family members about the life of the deceased, with twists and turns that take in various relationships, changes of location, job, life stage etc.

There’s a verse from the Bible which I have on the wall in my study, above the year planner board: “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps” (Proverbs 16.9). The Covid pandemic has taken so many things in unanticipated directions, including tragedy and trauma for millions of people around the world. But God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and He doesn’t change, whatever the circumstances. So we can rely on Him and walk with Him through all the ups and downs of life.

The current book I am reading is ‘Gentle and lowly’ by Dane Ortlund, reflecting on the only time when Jesus Himself spelled out His nature. In Matthew 11 Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest … I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” What a great invitation that is.. as the season progressed, we put in some excellent performances against the top sides, but unfortunately dropping too many points against the teams lower down the table. But for that we could have finished somewhere near the playoff positions rather than the 11th place finish we achieved. All in all, though, it was a good achievement to finish midtable in our first season back at this level. As everyone is aware last season the club, along with all other clubs from Step 3 to 7, had their season ended prematurely when the Covid-19 virus struck. All football at our level was cancelled and declared null and void come April 2020. It was a huge disappointment as the team were settled in fourth place in what was an extremely successful season up to then and a playoff game to potentially looking forward to, but we will never know!

Season 2020/21 started late in September 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic and we saw less league fixtures than the previous season as we only played seven games before we went into lockdown in the last week of October. We did play four further games in the FA Trophy before losing 4-0 to Bath City in the Third Round Proper in Bath.

At the start of this year in January 2021 the FA and Southern League concluded that the 2020/21 season should be null and void and along with everyone else we are now hopeful that we can start and complete this 2021/22 season.
