 60% of this capital was provided by Business Angels, Venture Capitalists or Corporate Venturing firms;

 These have enabled the creation of 35 high skilled jobs, amounting to a total of 75 jobs in 15 start-ups thus far.

The Caixa Empreender+ Awards were created to reward projects of a technological nature, originating in any country (http://mitportugal-iei.org/images/stories/RulesRegulations.pdf) driven by teams with hands-on approaches, innovative business models and business skills with an eye to potential global markets. Annually, 4 start-ups are financially supported with up to €1million. This competition is part of the MIT Portugal program.

Luis Reto, Dean of ISCTE-IUL, stated, "This award is designed in an innovative way in order to put a great emphasis on the post-award, i.e. the venture phase, including the creation of conditions conducive to global projection of the selected companies. Why did we embark in such an endeavor? Because we believe that a prominent business school should - beyond educate, actively contribute to setting an evidence-based program that can lead to setting the foundations for an international technology hub, in Portugal. Why is this important? Because Portuguese people have always been an ambitious and forward looking people. We have an important legacy from the discoveries and a desire to reach for the world. Because of this internationalized stance these start-ups are already attracting interest from foreign investors. It's great to see the commitment of the founders at work. These are really enthusiastic results for one year of work. But I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all of them. This will surely be the start of a long journey!”
