Hi

I hope you've had a lovely weekend.

We've had a chat with the Mayor's office and Marvin is interested in this. Could you let me know some dates of which you're available, and also a little more on the scope of the story/what angle the piece(s) would take?

Thanks

I’m a keen cycle commuter as it happens ‐ so take an interest in cycling stories. I wondered if there’s any mileage in reporting Marvins thoughts on cycling in Bristol for TV and other BBC outlets ??? An honest appraisal of course. Thank you.

Hi

Apologies for the delay on this, it took longer than expected to get a reply.

Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate an interview at this point, but have included our statement re the council fleet below for you,

Many thanks

A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said: “We’re supporting the city to become carbon neutral by 2030. This includes our own target of being a carbon neutral council by 2025. To hit this target we’re reducing our carbon footprint across all departments and that includes upgrading our fleet to replace older vehicles. So far we’ve introduced 135 new vehicles for use across all services with another 29 expected in January 2020. A further 178 are due to be brought in over the next couple of years with a minimum of 10 per cent of the final fleet being electric. Of those purchased already, 64 are diesel, which were purchased due to suitable petrol equivalents being unavailable. All vehicles purchased conform to the latest European emissions standards (Euro 6).

“The further roll out of 178 vehicles had previously been put on hold whilst the team seeks clarification from manufacturers on new vehicle models being released in 2020, including those not currently available as electric powered, and will not continue until this information has been received. During this time the team will also be undertaking some upgrades of EV infrastructure at council depots and monitor the ongoing development of the proposed Clean Air Zone. No decisions have been made on the fuel makeup of future vehicle purchases.

“Bristol City Council has a legal duty to improve our air quality. The full detail of the proposed clean air zone has yet to be established and will not be finalised until an agreed full business case is published. How the council’s fleet is used in future will be influenced by the final scheme put in place but both initiatives aim to achieve the same goal of reducing air pollution and establishing Bristol as a carbon neutral city.’’

Additional info: The vehicles rolled out to date include 19 Electric Vehicles, 64 Euro 6 diesel vehicles and 52 Euro 6 petrol vehicles. A further 11 Euro 6 petrol vehicles and 18 Euro 6 diesel vehicles have been purchased and are due to be delivered in January 2020. The upgrade began in April 2018 and is estimated to continue into the 2020/2021 financial year. The details of contracts associated with the purchase of these vehicles are considered commercially sensitive and cannot be disclosed.

Hi thanks for your email. We’re covering the story of Bristol City Council getting 82 new diesel vehicles, including 18 new diesel vans coming in January 2020. At a time when the council has announced plans for an inner‐ city ban on all privately owned diesel vehicles. It would be great if someone from the council would be available for interview – perhaps to provide reassurance no new diesel vehicles will be bought and these will be sent back/sold at the earliest opportunity (if that’s the case.) It would be brilliant if the interview could take place inside a council car (perhaps you’d like it to be in an electric/unleaded car to show the council has some?) In terms of interview tomorrow after 10am would be great. Thanks,

Hi

Thanks for this information.

This seems to indicate that this application was made online? Did the person in question actually go in person to the Arnolfini to register to vote? As we understand it, this initiative was something the Bristol Beer Factory inside the Arnolfini building had offered for those with no fixed abode but were encouraging people to go in and see them so that they could offer advice etc.

The council did not need to give permission to the Arnolfini to do this, so we would recommend contacting the Arnolfini directly.

This is the response the person with no fixed abode received when applying to vote via the Arnolfini.

If you have any clue as to why this has happened that would be great.

Dear all

Please could you email the full eligible electorate figure(s) for your parliamentary constituency / ies to [email protected] ASAP and no later than Monday 9th December?

We’re looking for the total number of people eligible to vote in each constituency for which your council is the lead authority.

We appreciate you usually publish the electorate figures a week before the election, and we need to get them into our system ASAP to ensure we can report turnout figures on the night.

We know the numbers might adjust slightly in the few days before the election on 12th Dec, but the changes are usually minimal and won’t affect our reporting.

Thank you so much for all your help.

Of course!

The programme is the first opportunity for viewers in the West to digest the election results here – so I thought it would be vital for us to hear from our council leaders and elected Mayor. What do they make of the result? How quickly can we expect to see the promises made in the manifesto to arrive locally. Obviously we will asking the panel for their reaction to their own party’s performance overnight.

We will provide some sandwiches etc

We would need Marvin to arrive at around 1300 and be away by 1400. The panel will be live in the studio throughout the programme and at the moment I am planning two discussion sections.

From: Sent: 05 December 2019 15:32 To: '[email protected]' Subject: BBC Filming Enquiry

Hi there,

I’ve just spoke to someone from the press team regarding filming for a new BBC programme called the Good Life. We’re filming with a Bristol based physchotherapist called on Monday afternoon. He’ll be holding a group therapy session that focusses on people’s fears/anxieties whatever they may be, that hold them back in day to day life.

I’ve attached a document which goes into more detail about the mindful activities and exercises we’re planning to do with the volunteers and our psychotherapist.

As I mentioned the filming will take place on Monday the 9th of December from around 3pm‐6:00pm and we’re currently looking for a filming location that will be nearby your offices in the city centre.

We’re ideally looking for a group of office workers that already know each other but if that’s not possible just people who are confident talking on camera and willing to talk about their fears/anxieties and explore this with our psychotherapist who will aim to combat these.

The programme is called The Good Life and will be aired in spring next year on Sunday afternoons.

As we’re looking to film on Monday we’re quite keen to get some volunteers confirmed today, please could you let me know if this is something that any of your colleagues at the council would be interested in taking part in?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for your email.

In terms of tracking the planning applications for these billboards, the best thing to do is head over to our Planning Portal here: https://planningonline.bristol.gov.uk/online‐applications/

If you enter the reference number in the search bar, there is a *TRACK function where you can get regular updates on specific applications.

We recommend tracking your specific applications of interest, and contacting us again regarding an interview once a decision has been made.

Best,

Hi,

I’m making a film about the increase of digital billboards in Bristol. I’m looking at 2 pending applications. Would it be possible for someone to alert me when there is a date for either a delegated decision or planning committee meeting for these two applications?

The two ref. numbers are 19/05142/A 16 Newbridge Road Bristol BS4 4DJ 19/04821/A Bath Road, Totterdown

Also I have interviewed Adblock Bristol. They have successfully objected to lots of applications but they have said rather than them fighting each application, they would like the council to step in and introduce a city wide policy against new digital screens. I would like to request an interview with a council representative to talk about these issues. Ideally we would like to talk to the Mayor as he has commented on the issue before. The objections to billboards are also very much linked to the climate emergency which is he has championed Bristol’s response to. The film isn’t due to go out until February but I would like to do the interview as soon as the decisions are made for the above planning applications.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi

Information on digital permits is being sent out upon expiry of the papers ones. Existing paper permits can continue to be used up until their expiry date. Once they have expired, digital permits can be applied for.

As per statement, anyone with books of permits they haven’t/are not using are advised to contact the parking team via the methods outlined and they will advise further.

Can I clarify one point please.

Have you offered digital passes to the people who have books of paid‐for visitor passes which are due to run out at the end of 2019? If I have one book which is unused but was paid for will you give me the equivalent in digital passes with a 2020 expiry date?

Thanks. Can I ask for a prompt response please.

Hi

Following phone call with earlier, apologies for delay on this. Please find a council response below

A Bristol City Council spokesperson said: “While our visitors’ parking permits are now digital, existing paper ones can continue to be used until they have expired, after which digital ones can be applied for via our website. “The majority of visitor permits issued are free and are valid for one year, with each residence receiving a new allocation of free ones every 12 months and a no refund policy in place for any expired ones. Anyone who feels they will be out of pocket after purchasing additional unused permits can contact parking services via the form at www.bristol.gov.uk/parking/contact‐residents‐parking with a copy of their purchase invoice/receipt and will be offered advice on what to do to ensure that they are honoured for the full 12‐month period from date of purchase. “An information leaflet explaining the change to digital permits is being sent out upon the expiry of the paper ones and further details about the digital change are available at www.bristol.gov.uk/parking/get‐visitors‐permits.’’

Note: Books of visitor permits have only been reissued where, when issued, they did not contain a minimum of a year’s validity, due to limited stock at the time required, or a valid reason was given as to why they could not have been used in the period that they were valid.

Hello,

I’d like to ask the council for clarity on what will happen to pre‐paid visitor parking passes which are due to run out at the end of the year.

I’m told in all previous years since the CPZ scheme has run, books of unused passes could be sent back to the council and would be reissued with a longer expiry date on them.

The concern is that as the system has gone digital this is no longer possible and people who have books of passes will be left out of pocket if they cannot use them up by the end of this month.

People are not asking to be reimbursed. They would like to keep the passes but have a longer expiry date.

33

The claim from those complaining is also that there has not been any communication with households within the zones about this.

I aim to publish the story as soon as possible but by 10am Wednesday and would ask you to comment to us by then.

Please email to me if the response is being sent today (Tuesday 3 Dec) or to [email protected] if it comes after 5pm.

Hi there,

My name is I’m of the researchers for the BBC One show Casualty.

48 We have an upcoming episode featuring the story of a man having a final meeting with his son before he is adopted to a family member in America. We are really keen to make the story as accurate as possible in terms of the representations of social work and how the social care system works. If it is possible – we would really like to speak to someone with expertise in the area to talk about this episode and storyline. Would that be at all possible?

This would entail giving feedback on extracts of scripts, and discussing ways to improve the storyline. We understand that you are probably extremely busy, but if anyone was available, even just for a brief discussion, that would really help us.

On a different note, it’s important that Casualty storylines don’t become public knowledge before they’re aired – so please keep the contents of this email confidential.

Thank you so much,

Casualty

Can I ask you to send on mobile numbers for those attending please for use in an emergency or if there is a sudden change of plans on the night.

I note you have requested access for a broadcast vehicle at Henbury. This should all be fine but I’ll get the logistics manager to confirm and get back to you.

Please note that parking at City Academy is tight and can’t be reserved but there is ample on street parking in the vicinity should choose to drive.

Attendees are welcome to get to the venue just after 9pm at the earliest.

I’ll be sending a pack out in the next couple of days and will make sure you’re also included on the list.

Hi

Thanks for passing all of these details on. All four are down on the list with accredited for all three venues.

Can you send me mobile numbers for everyone please. These are only for use in an emergency or if things change suddenly on the night.

In response to your questions:

a) do they have broadband, can we use? All venues have broadband and we can provide details of this on the night b) do the reporters have to be there by 10pm or can they get in later? Reporters are welcome to come along eany time aft r 9:30pm c) Can we have a parking pass? Sadly we can’t reserve parking and given the limited amount of space at City Academy and Henbury Leisure Centre we have to prioritise count officials and presiding officers. There is a fair bit of on street parking around both these locations and ample parking at Action Indoor Sports d) we may have a (small) broadcast vehicle so we may need to liase with someone on site – where do you need to this to go? No problem in Whitchurch but we’ll have some issues at City Academy and Henbury so I’ll need to liaise with the logistics manager if you need one at these venues e) most importantly (!!!) are they serving tea/coffee? (just to help with our plans!) – There’s cafes at City Academy and Action Indoor Sports selling hot drinks and food all night. We’re limited to a vending machine in Henbury.

One thing to note is that we’re expecting the count in Whitchurch to be a cold one given the size of the venue. Highly recommend wraps up warm.

I’ll be sending out an info pack in the next couple of days which I’ll copy you in on.

Hi

Sorry for delay on this, but please find a Bristol City Council response below

deputy Mayor and Bristol City Council Cabinet member for Communities said: and myself have led work with partners in the police, voluntary groups and other public agencies, with the Safer Options team looking specifically at how we can tackle youth violence and gang crime in the city, which was a One City priority of ours this year. The team is made up of a range of professionals from the police, education, youth support and the community whose aim is to identify young people at risk to help them steer away from a dangerous future and towards opportunities for work, education or training. They look to disrupt crime and bring offenders to justice whilst also working with communities to take a more active role in tackling this problem. “Underpinning much of this work is the multi‐agency Preventing Gang Involvement and Youth Violence Strategy, launched in 2017 by the Safer Bristol Partnership. Designed by a group that included young people and a network of community champions recruited and trained to act as voluntary mentors to young people at risk of being caught up in violent and organised crime. “The majority of these types of incidents in Bristol are related to domestic violence cases and adult crime but although youth numbers are small in comparison, even one incident is too many and this approach will hopefully help bring about an across‐the‐board reduction of these cases in the future.’’

Would it be possible to have a comment from the council? Could you let me know who to call or you can call me on and I can tell you more about the story.

I realise it’s purdah, so if you feel this would prohibit you from making a comment, could you send me a short statement explaining that it’s not possible to comment during the pre‐election period.

Hi & all,

Most schools I’ve spoken to offer free products, some of them through the Red Box scheme (eg Colston Girls, Cotham & others), some by using free products donated from companies (eg City Academy) & others by using school funds (eg Andalusia Academy). I don’t know of any in particular who have done fundraising around this but there may be some.

There is a small group of engaged students around this at City Academy who made a film with Sharp Shotz around Period dignity earlier this year, I would recommend you contact there or who is the head of y10.

Another school who took a really active part in the consultation for the Period Friendly Schools guidance was Hareclive Primary in South Bristol. one of the teachers brought a group of y6 girls to the Summit in November who were really great & had lots to say.

One last thing that is really important in any discussion like this is that, as has clearly been found in Scotland, where communication about products available states clearly that they’re for anyone who needs them (not just “poor people” then there is far better take up. Both periods and poverty are deeply stigmatising, & promoting products to address ‘period poverty’ means no one tends to use them either because they don’t want to be thought of as poor, or because they believe they’re for someone else. It would be really great if your article could highlight that providing products helps everyone, because in the early years of having periods it’s easy to get caught short if your cycle is irregular or you’re not used to it yet. Providing products for all, in as many accessible places as possible, goes some way to providing dignity for menstruating young people in school whatever their home situation.

I hope this helps. Best wishes

Hi

From what I understand the person was asked to leave by the presiding officer and did so. I don’t think we have more to say on this right now but I’ll get back to you after I’ve spoken with the elections team.

Thanks

Police have twice been called to the polling station at Henleaze Library today, Thursday 12 December to support polling station staff in the exercise of their powers. The presiding officer is responsible for the security of the polling

station and has the power to order a person’s removal. Officers were initially called soon after 9am following complaints about the behaviour of three people, two women and a man. Only one woman was there on officers' arrival and she was advised about her behaviour. Police were called again at about 1.10pm to reports of a man causing a disturbance. The man left on the instruction of the presiding officer but attended another polling station in Brainsfield where he was again instructed to leave in the presence of police officers.
