We've had a chat with the Mayor's office and Marvin is interested in this. Could you let me know some dates of which you're available, and also a little more on the scope of the story/what angle the piece(s) would take? I’m a keen cycle commuter as it happens ‐ so take an interest in cycling stories. I wondered if there’s any mileage in reporting Marvins thoughts on cycling in Bristol for TV and other BBC outlets ??? An honest appraisal of course. Thank you. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate an interview at this point, but have included our statement re the council fleet below for you, Many thanks A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said: “We’re supporting the city to become carbon neutral by 2030. This includes our own target of being a carbon neutral council by 2025. To hit this target we’re reducing our carbon footprint across all departments and that includes upgrading our fleet to replace older vehicles. So far we’ve introduced 135 new vehicles for use across all services with another 29 expected in January 2020. A further 178 are due to be brought in over the next couple of years with a minimum of 10 per cent of the final fleet being electric. Of those purchased already, 64 are diesel, which were purchased due to suitable petrol equivalents being unavailable. All vehicles purchased conform to the latest European emissions standards (Euro 6). “The further roll out of 178 vehicles had previously been put on hold whilst the team seeks clarification from manufacturers on new vehicle models being released in 2020, including those not currently available as electric powered, and will not continue until this information has been received. During this time the team will also be undertaking some upgrades of EV infrastructure at council depots and monitor the ongoing development of the proposed Clean Air Zone. No decisions have been made on the fuel makeup of future vehicle purchases. “Bristol City Council has a legal duty to improve our air quality. The full detail of the proposed clean air zone has yet to be established and will not be finalised until an agreed full business case is published. How the council’s fleet is used in future will be influenced by the final scheme put in place but both initiatives aim to achieve the same goal of reducing air pollution and establishing Bristol as a carbon neutral city.’’ Additional info: The vehicles rolled out to date include 19 Electric Vehicles, 64 Euro 6 diesel vehicles and 52 Euro 6 petrol vehicles. A further 11 Euro 6 petrol vehicles and 18 Euro 6 diesel vehicles have been purchased and are due to be delivered in January 2020. The upgrade began in April 2018 and is estimated to continue into the 2020/2021 financial year. The details of contracts associated with the purchase of these vehicles are considered commercially sensitive and cannot be disclosed. We’re covering the story of Bristol City Council getting 82 new diesel vehicles, including 18 new diesel vans coming in January 2020. At a time when the council has announced plans for an inner‐ city ban on all privately owned diesel vehicles. It would be great if someone from the council would be available for interview – perhaps to provide reassurance no new diesel vehicles will be bought and these will be sent back/sold at the earliest opportunity (if that’s the case.) It would be brilliant if the interview could take place inside a council car (perhaps you’d like it to be in an electric/unleaded car to show the council has some?) In terms of interview tomorrow after 10am would be great. Can make enquiries on it for you but just wanted to ascertain that was the case, what were the requirements (timings etc) and an idea of what you are looking to ask? Would you be able to advise? This seems to indicate that this application was made online? Did the person in question actually go in person to the Arnolfini to register to vote? As we understand it, this initiative was something the Bristol Beer Factory inside the Arnolfini building had offered for those with no fixed abode but were encouraging people to go in and see them so that they could offer advice etc. The council did not need to give permission to the Arnolfini to do this, so we would recommend contacting the Arnolfini directly. We’re looking for the total number of people eligible to vote in each constituency for which your council is the lead authority. We appreciate you usually publish the electorate figures a week before the election, and we need to get them into our system ASAP to ensure we can report turnout figures on the night. We know the numbers might adjust slightly in the few days before the election on 12th Dec, but the changes are usually minimal and won’t affect our reporting. Thank you so much for all your help.
