Every Day. In the 2015/16 school year, nearly 4,000 families, businesses and community members made generous donations to MBEF in support of our children and our schools. This extraordinary group of donors are committed to providing every child in our community with exceptional educational opportunities, every day. YOU, our parents, business leaders, educators and community members, are critical partners in ensuring that our children will continue to benefit from programs that inspire learning, enrich teaching, and promote innovation and academic excellence. The funding our District receives from the state is simply not enough. Throughout the country, counties are empowered to decide how much funding to invest in their local education systems. In California, per-pupil funding is determined at the state level. All schools receive base funding on a per pupil basis, and districts with higher need students receive additional support. As a result, in 2015/16 MBUSD received roughly $7,500 per pupil, which put our funding level at the bottom of the state and the country.

Manhattan Beach Education Foundation Annual Report & Honor Roll 2019-2020 Dear Friends of MBEF – You make it possible. Year after year, you — the parents, business leaders, educators, and neighbors of our community — recognize that great schools begin with strong foundations. Together we have committed to opportunities that invite our students to dream, to think, and to engage in what is possible. Because of your commitment, this year the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF) will make its largest grant to the Manhattan Beach Unified School District in its history — an investment of $7.5 million to strengthen our schools. We invite you to learn more about the specific programs MBEF will fund for the coming 2020-21 school year in this Annual Report & Honor Roll — the programs you helped make possible. Despite district budget cuts this year, support of MBEF continues to strengthen the academic journey of all students, from learning in smaller class sizes The Power to supporting learning from home. The road ahead remains full of challenges for our schools. The uncertainty around continued distance learning and the significant structural deficit in state funding are among the largest. But our community has proven that we are up to the challenge. We are steadfast in our efforts to grow local support of our schools — through MBEF’s Annual Appeal, of Possible the Endowment, and other critical initiatives — for the students of today and tomorrow. Thank you for standing with MBEF and our commitment to providing excellent educational opportunities for our children here in Manhattan Beach. We look forward to shaping what is possible together.

SIDELINED BY GENDER: EXAMINING THE REPRESENTATION OF THE FEMALE SIDELINE REPORTER by LORI AMBER ROESSNER (Under the Direction of Leara Rhodes) ABSTRACT Tune into college football on any given autumn Saturday, and you are like to observe young, beautiful female sideline reporters. In this study, feminist critical theory and textual analysis are utilized to examine the representation of the female sideline reporter in the 2005- 2006 NCAA Division I-A college football bowl season. To date, little research has been conducted on the representation and role of female sideline reporters. Analysis showed that female sideline reporters were under-represented, objectified and commodified in four select games of the 2005-2006 NCAA Division I-A college football bowl season. The study revealed that representations of female sideline reporters reproduce masculine hegemony. This study adds to the knowledge of masculine hegemony in sports casting which was more stated than corroborated. This study lays the groundwork for future examination of representations of women in journalism through the lenses of feminist critical theory and textual analysis. INDEX WORDS: Female Sideline Reporter, Sports Broadcasting, Journalism, Textual Analysis, Feminist Critical Theory, Masculine Hegemony, Patriarchy. television appearances Colorado has appeared on either national or regional television 227 times since the 1951 season, posting a 107-117-3 record in these games (52-40-2 in Boulder). The Buffaloes have been on national TV a total of 140 times, owning a 62-75-3 record (33-22-2 in Boulder). Since 1990, the Buffaloes have been one of the most televised teams in the nation, as 178 of their 257 games (69 percent) have been broadcast either nationally or regionally. The first appearance on TV by Colorado was in 1951, as the Nebraska game in Lincoln on Nov. 17 was broadcast to 19 states in the central part of the nation as part of the NCAA television testing program; an estimated 8-to- 10 million people watched the Buffs win in impressive fashion. An interesting fact is that the first college football game ever televised on ESPN involved Colorado, as the fledgling cable network broadcast the Oregon-CU game on Sept. 8, 1979.
