A Film by John Madden Production Notes Synopsis Even the best secret agents carry a debt from a past mission. Rachel Singer must now face up to hers… Filmed on location in Tel Aviv, the U.K., and Budapest, the espionage thriller The Debt is directed by Academy Award nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love). The screenplay, by Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman and Peter Straughan, is adapted from the 2007 Israeli film Ha-Hov [The Debt]. At the 2011 Beaune International Thriller Film Festival, The Debt was honoured with the Special Police [Jury] Prize. The story begins in 1997, as shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (played by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren) and Stephan (two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds of the upcoming Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). All three have been venerated for decades by Israel because of the secret mission that they embarked on for their country back in 1965-1966, when the trio (portrayed, respectively, by Jessica Chastain [The Tree of Life, The Help], Marton Csokas [The Lord of the Rings, Dream House], and Sam Worthington [Avatar, Clash of the Titans]) tracked down Nazi war criminal Dieter Vogel (Jesper Christensen of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace), the feared Surgeon of Birkenau, in East Berlin. While Rachel found herself grappling with romantic feelings during the mission, the net around Vogel was tightened by using her as bait. At great risk, and at considerable personal cost, the team’s mission was accomplished – or was it? The suspense builds in and across two different time periods, with startling action and surprising revelations that compel Rachel to take matters into her own hands.

On a business trip to Cincinnati, where he's scheduled to speak at a convention of customer service professionals, Michael checks into the Fregoli Hotel and meets Lisa Hesselman (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a socially awkward sales rep from Akron who may or may not be the love of his life. From Charlie Kaufman (writer, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, ADAPTATION, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, director, SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK), and Duke Johnson comes a darkly comedic and surreal stop-motion journey into the mind of a man whose dark night of the soul becomes a Kafkaesque — make that Kaufmanesque — nightmare. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION The first animated film directed by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson began its life as a play in 2005, as part of composer Carter Burwell's adventurous Theater of a New Ear project, bringing together Academy Award®-winning writer- directors Charlie Kaufman and Joel & Ethan Coen for a double-bill "sound play," performed in New York, London and Los Angeles. For these performances, Burwell — who wrote the score for Kaufman penned screenplays’ BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION and many of the Coen Brothers' films — assembled a chamber ensemble, performing live accompaniment alongside Foley artist Marko Costanzo's sound effects, as Kaufman's "Hope Leaves the Theater," starring Hope Davis, Peter Dinklage and Meryl Streep, and the Coens' "Sawbones" unfurled on a barren stage with actors reading their lines from stools in the style of old-time radio plays.

  • It's Lights out for HBO's the Newsroom
It's lights out for HBO's The Newsroom Miami, FL – October 29, 2014 – HBO announced the premiere of the third and final season of the hit original drama series The Newsroom on November 9th in the Caribbean, simultaneously with the United States. Created by Oscar® and Emmy® winner Aaron Sorkin, the series comes to an end with a six-episode season, centered on the personal and professional challenges faced by news anchor Will McAvoy (portrayed by Jeff Daniels, who won an Emmy® for his role on the series) and his newsroom team. Since its premiere in 2012, Golden Globe® nominated series The Newsroom has taken a behind-the-scenes look at a tumultuous cable-news program at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) Network, focusing on the on- and off-camera lives of its staff and their quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of a fickle audience, corporate mandates and tangled personal relationships. The series remains one of the most intelligent and entertaining on television and has garnered critical acclaim throughout its run, including Emmy® nominations for two consecutive years for Jeff Daniels as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (winner in 2013) and for Jane Fonda as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. At the end of season two, Barak Obama has just been reelected, and Will and Mac (Emily Mortimer) announced their engagement after their resignations – in the wake of the Genoa debacle – were refused. Though ACN may be fictional, the stories it features are drawn from recent headlines. Season three begins five months later on April 15, 2013, when explosions at the Boston Marathon send the newsroom into overdrive.

Suddenly the power goes out; no one knows why. No electricity, no gasoline. Their solar power system isn’t working. Over the following days, the radio reports a thousand theories: technical breakdowns, terrorism, disease and uncontrolled violence across the continent. Then, one day, the radio stops broadcasting. Absolute silence. Step by ominous step, everything that Nell, a would-be academic, and Eva, a hard working contemporary dancer, have come to rely on is stripped away: parental protection, information, food, safety, friends, lovers, music -- all gone. They are faced with a world where rumor is the only guide, trust is a scarce commodity, gas is king and loneliness is excruciating. To battle starvation, invasion and despair, Nell and Eva fall deeper into a primitive life that tests their endurance and bond. Ultimately, the sisters must work together to survive and learn to discover what the earth will provide.
