1 - The Arabian Gulf Reserve League:

The competition is to be re-named to “The Reserve League” and age group adjusted to under 20.

2 - Foreign Players:

The current system of four foreign players including one Asian player is to be retained for next season. Starting the 2018/19, the system will change to four players of any nationality.

3 - Resident Players:

Resident players are to be added to the under-14 league in line with the applicable UAE FA regulations. This has been approved based on clubs’ request, whereas previously, resident players could only be registered starting at under-15 level through to the reserves. A resident player can be registered in the reserve league on the condition that he had held a UAE residence visa for at least 1 year prior to regis- tration and holds a valid Emirates ID.

This initiative aims to integrate residents in the UAE football community, increase fan attendance and pro- tect clubs’ investments in expat players in across age groups.

2016-17 A SEASON OF GIVING AND ACHIEVEMENTS I 41 HAT-TRICK INITIATIVE LIGHTS UP COMPETITION BETWEEN AGL TOP GOALSCORERS

The PLC ignited competition amongst Arabian Gulf League attackers with a new initiative launched in Lima round 6 of the 2016/17 season. “The Goalscorer Initiative” honours a player who scores three goals “Hat-trick” or more in one match. The initiative stems from the PLC’s keenness to highlight the efforts of attacking players in scoring goals. Hat-trick scorers receive a matchball signed by the referee after the final whistle.

Two players received the award in round 6, Al Ahli’s Rodrigo Lima who scored four goals against Hatta, and Al Wahda’s Sebastian Tagliabue who netted five against Sharjah. After a blank round 7, Makhete Diop registered a hat-trick in Al Dhafra’s colours against his current team, Al Ahli in round 8.
