Christopher joined Framatome ANP (Advanced Nuclear Power), Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer in April 2000. In addition, he became CEO and Vice-Chairman of AREVA Enterprises, Inc., the U.S. headquarters of the parent company, in early 2003. Prior to joining Framatome ANP, Christopher was most recently the Vice President and General Manager of the Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation's Energy Services Divisions. Before that, he was General Manager of the Westinghouse Power Generation Business Unit's Energy Divisions. He joined Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Division in 1973 and served in various management positions. He was General Manager of the Westinghouse Nuclear Service Division from 1982 to1995. Christopher holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics (1968) from Georgia Tech. He graduated from the Naval Nuclear Program and was a licensed engineering officer of Operating Nuclear Submarines. In 1980, Christopher earned a Master of Business degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Based on MCNP6™ neutronics performance estimates, the size of a 5 kWe reactor fueled with 19.75 wt% enriched uranium-10 wt% molybdenum alloy fuel is adjusted to match the excess reactivity of KRUSTY. Then, zirconium hydride moderator is added to the core in four different configurations (a homogeneous fuel/moderator mixture and spherical, disc, and helical fuel geometries) to reduce the mass of uranium required to produce the same excess reactivity, decreasing the size of the reactor. The lowest mass reactor with a given moderator represents a balance between the reflector thickness and core diameter needed to maintain the multiplication factor equal to 1.035, with a H/D ratio of 1.81.

There had not been any nuclear research performed at BYU since the 1970’s. With his arrival came a remarkable influx of student involvement in nuclear research and enrollment in the elective course, “Introduction to Nuclear Engineering.” There may not currently be a nuclear engineering major at BYU, but Dr. Memmott hopes to develop it soon as an emphasis or a minor. During the summer of 2015, we began our own student section of ANS, appointed leaders, and started recruiting members. We organized and went on two tours, and by the end of the summer, we had reached a size of 35 members! Our section continued to grow as we made our presence known on campus and educated our fellow students on the advantages of nuclear science/energy. We received our official student section charter in October 2015. MEMBERSHIP STATISTICS By the end of the 2015-16 academic year, these were our membership statistics: Total ANS BYU Student Section Membership 79 Total National ANS Membership 22 Students Enrolled in “Intro. to Nuclear Engineering” 40 Graduates Going into Nuclear Industry 1 Graduates Doing Graduate School in Nuclear Engineering 6 ACTIVITY SUMMARIES Tour of Energy Solutions in Clive, UT – On July 14, twenty-five student members went to tour the largest privately-owned nuclear waste facility in the United States.
