The New York Yankees, Philadelphia/Oakland Athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals have won many. The Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and San Francisco Giants endured decades-long dry spells before they finally won the orldW Series. Even expansion teams like the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, and Florida Marlins have won multiple championships. Other expansion teams like the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers have been to the Fall Classic multiple times, although they did not win. Then we have the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have not been to a World Series since 1945, and have not won one since 1908. -
June 2017 Newsletter
Leading Causes of Auto Accidents in Missouri and Illinois Are Preventable A tragic auto accident recently claimed the lives of 4 Trenton residents in northern Missouri. The 20-year old driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle and then overcorrected, sending it over an embankment. All 4 occupants were killed - tragically, none appeared to have been wearing a seatbelt. Each year, thousands of Missouri and Illinois residents are hurt or killed in car accidents. In the 2 states combined there were 1,867 fatalities and more than 103,000 injured in 2015 traffic accidents (data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Car Accidents - Leading Causes The number of traffic fatalities attributable to alcohol or drug-impaired drivers continues to be much too high. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs caused 26% of the deaths in Missouri, while the Illinois rate was significantly higher at 31%. Speeding is another frequent problem, causing 36% of fatalities in both states. Combined, these 2 primary accident causes - driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and speeding - cause more than 60% of all traffic deaths - and they are both entirely preventable! Other leading causes of traffic accidents include: Driving while distracted by cellphones, texting and other distractions Wrong-way driving Drowsy driving Driver error including improper lane change, failure to yield, overcorrections and traffic violations Reducing the Number of Fatal Traffic Accidents One important way to reduce the number of fatal auto accidents is to educate young drivers on the dangers of driving under the influence, speeding, driving while distracted and driving or riding without a seatbelt.
