S. Patent Office Exclusively in the name of AMORC PREFACE The mystery which has always surrounded the origin and history of the Great White Brother' hood has probably been one of its fascinating at' tractions, even with those who had no interest in its teachings or its activities. The mystery is not eliminated by a revelation of the real as well as the traditional facts associated with its origin; and in its history one will find romance, intrigue, astound' ing achievements, fascinating exploits, and allur' ing inducements. The history of the Brotherhood must be divided into two general classifications. First, that which is traditional, and which has come down to the present time by word of mouth, supported by more or less definite references in ancient writings or symbolical passages in the rituals or teachings; and second, that which is truly historical and sup' ported by the records found in the various branches of the organization throughout the world. It is realized that the traditional history of the organization is very often cast aside or accepted 9 HISTORY OF THE ORDER with considerable doubt by those who hesitate to believe in the antiquity of the organization. Per' sons of this type prefer to have the history of the organization begin with its first definite, printed records. But they forget that everything of human construction had a beginning, and that there must have been an origin and beginning of the Order which antedates the first definite, printed, or writ' ten records. It was generally believed, several hundred years ago, that the historical hirih of the Rosicru' cians did not antedate the seventeenth century. It was likewise believed that the traditional birth of the Order began some time in the Christian Era, and ended at the time of the historical birth. In other words, the attitude was taken that all the stories, reports, and references to the Rosicrucians as existing prior to the seventeenth century be' longed to the traditional history of the Order. But, the many discoveries of documents, books, manu scripts, and references of an authentic nature in the past century have taken the actual origin and existence of the Order backward step by step, 10 HISTORY OF THE ORDER year by year, into the very heart of the so'called traditional period. The demand on the part of Rosicrucian students throughout the world and the search on the part of thousands of others for more facts regarding both the traditional and actual periods of the Order's existence, have warranted this history. Parts of this history appeared for the first time in the official Rosicrucian magazine called the "Amer' ican Rosae Crucis," beginning with the January, 1916, issue. That history was at that time con sidered the most complete outline of the tradi tional part of the Order's existence ever presented, and has been widely utilized by other writers who found therein the clues which enabled them to ver ify many of the statements made. Since 1916 a number of other histories have appeared in the French, Dutch, German, and English languages by eminent officers of the organization. In most of these, the facts presented in the articles which appeared in the "American Rosae Crucis" have been utilized and appreciation expressed for the publication of hitherto concealed records. 11 HISTORY OF THE ORDER The present history is an extension of the one published in the magazine and considerably aug' mented by documents, books, and papers sent to the author by other historians or members of for' eign branches of the Order, who were able to find the further details because of the clues given in the original articles. Credit must also be given to the researches made by the official historian of the Order in America, Fra Fidelis, who, through his editorial association with one of the largest news' papers in North America, and his connections with the Order and with foreign libraries and rec ords in many languages, has been able to make extensive researches covering a number of years, thereby bringing to light many important and intensely interesting facts. Whether one accepts all of the points of the traditional history or not, one is certain to feel that the origin of the Rosicrucian Order is found in the early mystery schools of the Great White Brotherhood. A study of the schools of philosophy and arcane wisdom in the Oriental lands preced' ing the Christian Era reveals that there is but one land in which the Rosicrucian organization could 12 HISTORY OF THE ORDER have had its birth. That land is Egypt. And even the casual student of Egyptian history is impressed with the probability of the birth of the organic tion in that land. If one sets aside the traditional history en' tirely, and accepts only that which is based upon very definite records in printed or official manu' script form, one must reject the popular and en' tirely fictitious claim that the Rosicrucian Order had its origin in the seventeenth century in Ger' many. The very positive references to the Order in printed books dated centuries earlier in other lands conclusively prove that the Order was very old and very well established when it had a form of revival in Germany in the seventeenth century. Likewise, one discovers at once that the romantic or symbolic story regarding Christian Rosen\reuz and his foundation of the first Rosicrucian body must be rejected, unless one associates that story with similar stories found in many earlier records. The author, therefore, presents the following history as the most modern version and perhaps the most complete outline of the history of the Rosicrucian Order, with the hope that the mem' 13 HISTORY OF THE ORDER bers of the Order will find between the lines the facts which are carefully concealed; and the inquir' ing mind, seeking for a mystery story and nothing more, will also find in the printed words a mystical romance prepared to his liking. 14 INTRODUCTION It is no violation of secrecy to give the outer, objective details of the various activities of the Great White Brotherhood, but the genuine con' servatism of the Eastern Councils until recent years has acted as a barrier as we in America believe necessary for the growth of any public or semi'public institution. After twenty years' study of the doctrines and principles, and a very careful examination of all matters pertaining to the history of the Order, one does not find a single prohibition against the gen eral publication of the history except in such minor details as are closely associated with the working or manifestation of some of the R. C. doctrines. While these exceptions are few, although of vast importance to the higher students, they have un' doubtedly caused the subconscious attitude on the part of all R. C. Brothers and Sisters that it is safer, in the face of their individual sacred oaths, to refrain from all mention of either the antiquity or progression of the Order. 15 HISTORY OF THE ORDER There is also the element of mysticism which explains the attitude of even the most advanced Brothers and Sisters. Realizing as most of them do that the complete history of the Brotherhood has never been given to the public and has for cen' turies defied the casual researches of scientists, his' torians and archivists alike, they feel a certain pride in having been able to mystify the pro foundly inquisitive minds.

Theosophical Siftings Christian Rosenkreuz and the Rosicrucians Vol 6, No 15 Christian Rosenkreuz and the Rosicrucians by William Wynn Westcott Reprinted from "Theosophical Siftings" Volume 6 The Theosophical Publishing Society, England [Page 3] THE Rosicrucians of mediaeval Germany formed a group of mystic philosophers, assembling, studying and teaching in private the esoteric doctrines of religion, philosophy and occult science, which their founder, Christian Rosenkreuz, had learned from the Arabian sages, who were in their turn the inheritors of the culture of Alexandria. This great city of Egypt, a chief emporium of commerce and a centre of intellectual learning, flourished before the rise of the Imperial power of Rome, falling at length before the martial prowess of the Romans, who, having conquered, took great pains to destroy the arts and sciences of the Egypt they had overrun and subdued ; for they seem to have had a wholesome fear of those magical arts, which, as tradition had informed them, flourished in the Nile Valley; which same tradition is also familiar to English people through our acquaintance with the book of Genesis, whose reputed author was taught in Egypt all the science and arts he possessed, even as the Bible itself tells us, although the orthodox are apt to slur over this assertion of the Old Testament narrative. Our present world has taken almost no notice of the Rosicrucian philosophy, nor until the last twenty years of any mysticism, and when it does condescend to stoop from its utilitarian and money-making occupations, it is only to condemn all such studies, root and branch, as waste of time and loss of energy.

  • ROSICRUCIANISM the Fraternity of the Rose Cross
ROSICRUCIANISM The Fraternity of the Rose Cross Council of Nine Muses February 10, 2007 Presented by William B. Brunk Sovereign Master Nine Muses Council No. 13 A cursory glance at the question of, “What is Rosicrucianism?” quickly leads one to be struck at how complex the subject really is. For, as much as Freemasonry has been known over the years as a secretive order, the Rosicrucian Order appears to be one much more secretive and mysterious. Dating from as early as the 15th century, it is a legendary and secretive order generally associated with the symbol of the Rose Cross, also found in certain rituals beyond “Craft” or “Blue Lodge” Masonry. The Rosicrucian movement first officially surfaced in 1614 in Cassel, Germany, with the publication of Fama Fraternitatis, des Loblichen Ordens des Rosenkreutzes (The Declaration of the Worthy Order of the Rosy Cross). The name “Rosicrucian” is thought to be derived from the symbol, a combination of a single rose upon a passion cross. Legend holds that the order was initiated with one Christian Rosenkreuz, born in 1378 in Germany. He was of good birth, but, being poor, was compelled to enter a monastery at a very early period of his life. At the age of one hundred years, he started with one of the monks on a pilgrimage to the Holy Sepulcher. He visited Damascus, Egypt, and Morocco, where he studied under the masters of the occult arts. Once he crossed over into Spain, however, his reception was not a terribly warm one and he determined to return to Germany to provide his own countrymen with the benefit of his studies and knowledge, and to establish a society for the cultivation of the sciences which he had studied during his travels.

  • “The Rosicrucians (Rose Cross) Cult” Was Founded on the “Legend Of
The Need for Teaching the Eschatological Gospel of Both Comings of Jesus Christ in the 21st Century . 3.5.3 Rosicrucians According to Kirban, “The Rosicrucians (rose cross) cult” was founded on the “legend of Christian Rosenkreuz, founder of the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross.” Rosenkreuz was born in Germany in 1378. He was sent to a monastery at the age of five and there learned Greek and Latin. He later traveled to the Middle East and stayed in Damascus. From there begins the story of the birth of the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross. At the age of sixteen, Rosenkreuz learned of some “Wise Men” at Damcar in Arabia. Rosenkreuz claimed that these wise men warmly welcomed him as a long lost brother. He then learned Arabic from them and was able to translate a secret book, the Liber M, into Latin. He spent three years there; from Damcar he went to Egypt, and two years later, left for Spain. Rosenkreuz was disappointed that he was not enthusiastically welcomed in Spain, so he returned to Germany. It was there that three monks from his old monastery joined him and became his disciples. They took an oath to keep secret all that they learned from Rosenkreuz. So that their successors could carry on the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross, they recorded everything in a manuscript book. Thus, the Fraternity of the Rosy Cross began with four members. Eventually, four others joined. All eight members were unmarried, pledged to chastity and agreed to a number of guidelines: 1. None of the members were to exercise any profession except medicine and they were not to accept payment.

  • Rosicrucian Society Essay Meanings of the Rose Croix
ROSICRUCIAN SOCIETY ESSAY MEANINGS OF THE ROSE CROIX TRADITION HARRY V. EISENBERG, M.D., Vl 0 Rose Croix, also called Rose Cross or The Rosy Cross, is an Order whose symbol is a red cross with a white rose at its center. Its founder was the semi-mythical Christian Rosenkreuz, who was a Kabba list and alchemist and founder of the Rosicrucian Order. This symbol exemplified the teachings of a tradition formed within the Christian tenets and represented by the following quote which defined itself: "What think you loving people, and how seem you affected, seeing that you now understand and know, that we acknowledge ourselves truly and sincerely to profess Christ, condemn the Pope, addict ourselves to the true Philosophy, lead a Christian life, and daily call, entreat and invite many more unto our Fraternity, unto whom the same Light of God likewise appeareth?"1 However, the symbol had several meanings depending on the source. From a non sectarian or non-religious viewpoint, represented by a group such as the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, it was said that the rosy cross predated Christianity and that the cross represented the human body and the rose represented man's unfolding consciousness. 2 The Rosicrucian Fellowship and similar rosicrucianists holding an esoteric Christian viewpoint maintained that the Rosicrucian Brotherhood was founded in the early 14th century.3 It began as an Invisible College of mystic sages, as previously mentioned, by a highly evolved entity with the symbolic name of Christian Rosenkreuz, with the mission of "preparing a new phase of the Christian religion to be used during the coming age now at hand, for as the world and man evolve, so also must religion change."4 We can define Rosicrucianism in a generic sense as the study or membership in a philosophical secret society founded in late medieval Germany by Christian Rosenkreuz.

  • Rosicrucianism Definition and Origins Rosicrucianism Is a Major Esoteric
Rosicrucianism Definition and Origins Rosicrucianism is a major esoteric current that comprises a textual and symbolic tradition as well as a large number of social organizations, most of them initiatory. It originated with three controversial volumes published in Germany between 1614 and 1620, amidst deep political and religious anxieties in Europe that would soon erupt in the Thirty Years’ War. The two most important texts, the Fama Fraternitatis (1614) and the Confessio Fraternitatis (1615), are known as the Rosicrucian “manifestos,” and were most likely written by a small group of scholars in Tübingen, including Johann Valentin Andreae (1586–1654), Christoph Besold (1577–1648), and Tobias Hess (1586–1614). On the one hand, the manifestos advanced a vision of Christian piety harmonized with the emerging sciences, drawing on a range of esoteric influences from alchemy and Paracelsianism to Christian kabbalah and Hermeticism; on the other, they announced the existence of a secret society founded by a medieval initiate into Oriental mysteries named Christian Rosenkreuz, which keeps powerful esoteric secrets and works towards a millennialist goal: the “general reformation of the whole world.” The publications sparked wide interest and a major furor over the existence of these Rosicrucian brothers, inspiring a series of pro-Rosicrucian books written in the spirit of the manifestos, including the writings of Robert Fludd (1674–1637), Michael Maier (1568–1622), Jan Amos Comenius (1592–1670) and others. From Fiction to Fact While historians agree that no Rosicrucian brotherhood really existed at the time of the manifestos’ publication (Andreae famously referred to the texts as a ludibrium), several such societies were later invented.

Revelation 17 1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:1 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.2 6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. 7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
