In cold or wet weather, we meet downstairs in the Gild Hall. When the weather warms, we will play outside the Gild Hall, often on the Shady Grove Stage. Bring your drums and/or percussion things and join in, or just come and enjoy the session! We are part of the Concert Gild of the Arden Club. ARDENSINGERS GILD Fall 2018 Production Robin Hood and the Singing Nun A panto, by Stuart Ardern Nov. 10, 16 & 17, 2018 at 8pm Nov. 11 & 17, 2018 at 2pm at the Arden Gild Hall Stage Director: Ken Mammarella Music Director: Helene Furlong The Ardensingers are really looking forward to presenting this raucous musical pantomime featuring heroic outlaws, wicked sheriffs, usurping princes, and a running parody of a well-known musical. Come out and cheer our heroes and hiss at the villains! The show is appropriate for all ages, with humor ranging from the slapstick to subtle adult humor. To current and prospective Ardensingers: This show requires a large, diverse cast, including motivated young actors. Visit our Auditions Page to review the script, music, and music recordings, read the character descriptions, download audition materials, and access other audition resources. Auditions will be downstairs at the Gild Hall on Tues.-Weds. June 19th and 20th from 7 - 10pm. We’ll be doing group auditions for the three “young outlaws” (roles specifically targeted for young actors), and for the roles of Herald, Soldiers, and Prisoner. We had another great season thanks to all participants, cooks, and volunteers! Work will continue in conjunction with the Arden Club on better design of the pantry and dining room! COOKING LESSONS BY EDMOND As we move forward on the topic of food and beverage, here are dates for June, July, August. All events are held in the Gild Hall kitchen and start at 9:30am. Some events are free to the public. Other events will have a cost and require an RSVP, due to food cost and public attendance. Donations are welcome. JUNE 2018 THE ARDEN CLUB CALENDAR 3 ARDEN FAIR Best Pie at the Fair Rules & Entry Form 1. Contest will be held on Saturday September 1st, 2018 (rain date will be Sunday, Sept.2nd) 2. Entries need to be delivered to the lower Gild hall entrance (cake booth) Friday afternoon-evening Or Saturday Fair Day. 3. Only pies that do not need refrigeration will be accepted. 4. Fillings and crusts must be homemade; no store-bought or bakery-made pies allowed. 5. Pies should be in 8 or 9” disposable pie tins. 6. A list of all ingredients must accompany each entry (due to allergen concerns) 7. Grand prize winner will receive $100 and bragging rights! 8. All pies shall become property of Arden Club and will be sold at the cake booth later in the day 9. Judging will take place at 11 am. Winner need not be present to collect prize. 10. Enter as many pies as you like, but each must be accompanied by the entry form. 11. Judging is based on overall Appearance, Crust and Filling 12. Find us on Facebook: Arden Folk Dance, or on our website: ardenclub.org SCHOLARS GILD Pyrotechnic Entertainment Presenter: Denis O’Regan 7:30 pm UPPER Gild Hall Tuesday June 19, 2018 The Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why Denis O’Regan will share what he thinks, knows, and misses about his unique passion. Having worked with some highly skilled designers and pyrotechnicians, he has learned some interesting history, methods, chemis- try, logistics, and storytelling techniques. He also has some backstage experiences, creative solutions, and even original special fireworks (SFX) to share. He’ll talk about the origins of multimedia entertainment and why pyrotechnic SFX were key from the very start. What families and occasions stand out in pyro history? Why did he journey beyond “painting and aerial canvas” to “floral arrangements”, in show design? How are fireworks designed and made? Why are opera and symphony favorites? Why did George II say, “too many fiddles”, and when was the first traffic jam? And, what do they have to do with fireworks? Denis will explain the techniques and insights of his profession about color, sound, and many other factors.
