In addition to his Florida House of Representatives salary, Miller worked as a federal congressional staffer for Representative Ric Keller, Representative Bill McCollum, and Senator Connie Mack, all of Florida. Between 2011 and 2014, Miller was a registered federal lobbyist, and helped maintain a federal contract for a company whose executives went on to be indicted for fraud. He claimed he didn’t know that he was even registered as a lobbyist. Miller is a career campaigner, working as a fundraiser for campaigns, including Senator Marco Rubio, Representative Katherine Harris, and Senator Mel Martinez, all of Florida. Miller worked primarily as a fundraising consultant through his firm, Advocacy Consulting. In 2016, Miller successfully pushed on behalf of his former lobbying firm for Florida state agencies to use at least $75,000 in taxpayer dollars to fix up a country club lake. Since being elected to the Florida House in 2014, Miller sponsored 39 bills, only 4 of which became law, despite Republicans holding a supermajority in the Florida Legislature. In October 2016, Miller appeared to see the influx of Puerto Ricans into Florida after Hurricane Maria as an opportunity to gain more voters and commented that he was “hoping” to speak with the refugees “about the values that I share with them.” Over His Political Career, Miller Earned More Than $268,000 In Taxpayer-Funded Salaries 2014-2017: Miller Earned $93,647.25 In Salary As A Member Of The Florida House Of Representatives Since Miller first took office in the Florida House of Representatives in 2014, he earned $29,697 per year as a state representative.
