Tickets are $75, with limited VIP seating available at $95. VIP ticket includes priority seating in the first four rows and a pre‐performance cocktail reception. Tickets are on sale now through breckcreate.org. A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas‐based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention‐defying manner that breaks down barriers. Celebrated for his distinctive voice and easygoing charisma, Lovett has received four Grammy Awards, including Best Male Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Album, the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award and was recently named the Texas State Musician by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Lovett as been touring in support of Release Me since its release in 2012. The album was #1 for several weeks on the Billboard Americana charts and is described as quintessential Lyle. Release Me features a smart collection of originals and songs written by some of his favorite songwriters that show not only the breadth of this legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences making him one of the most infectious and fascinating musicians in popular music. The Breckenridge engagement of Lyle Lovett and His Acoustic Group is part of a new performing arts series entitled “BCA Presents,” a program of year‐round concerts, lectures, and special events presented and hosted by Breckenridge Creative Arts. While Austin enjoys international acclaim for its live music scene, Houston has long had one of the richest and most diverse musical histories of any city in Texas. Although not always adequately recognized for its contributions to the state’s songwriting traditions, Houston had a thriving folk music scene from the 1960s to the 1980s, helping launch the careers of numerous singer-songwriters. Founded in January 2016, the Houston Folk Music 47 Archive at the Woodson Research Center, which is part of Rice University’s Fondren Library, seeks to preserve and celebrate Houston’s folk music history, including its artists, venue owners, promoters, producers, and others. During the process of digitizing 2-track radio reels from Rice University’s student-run radio station, KTRU, I discovered a large number of folk music recordings, including live shows, interviews, and in-studio performances. Among these were such radio programs as Arbuckle Flat and Chicken Skin Music, which feature interviews and performances by Eric Taylor, Nanci Griffith, Lucinda Williams, Vince Bell, and others. The musicians tell stories about how they ended up in Houston and became part of the thriving folk community centered in the Montrose neighborhood. Not having grown up in the area, I was unaware that the local scene was so vibrant that several artists, including Lucinda Williams, had left Austin to join Houston’s tight-knit folk community.

Seems like only yesterday yours truly fanzine girl was typing into a 4MB Compaq computer with a pile of photocopies from the local library piled high around me to create our first issue. Now we can all get daily news alerts from all corners of the globe thanks to a mighty invention called Google. It is my humble hope that I can still offer a service to you dear readers by putting together some of the best reviews, interviews, and various facts that are out there about John and his music. One of the most exciting pieces of recent news came from Ted Drozdowski of Gibson.com: “.. guitar builders at Gibson’s acoustic shop in Bozeman, Montana, have now paid tribute to Hiatt’s longtime main axes with a limited edition John Hiatt Model. The big-bodied dreadnought built to Hiatt’s specifications of a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and a one-piece mahogany neck with a modified v-shaped profile generates the same kind of rich, ringing, harmonically complex tones that grace Hiatt’s records...” And speaking of beautiful tones, John’s daughter, Lilly Hiatt, is starting to make her mark on the music scene. Her band, The Dropped Ponies, recently played at a New West Records party in Austin around the time John was in town for the South by Southwest Music Festival.
