McDaniel Scholarship Fund September 30, 2011, 6pm at Our Brothers Place, 233 N. Huron, Toledo, Ohio

Join the Professional Musicians of Northwest Ohio for a gathering in support of the Charles W McDaniel Scholarship fund at the end of September! The evening will begin with live jazz music featuring Keith Bernhard on drums, Josh Silver on piano, and Steve Knurek on bass at 6 p.m. A silent auction featuring artwork and local northwest Ohio made products will begin at 6:30 p.m. An open jam session will be facilitated by the featured jazz trio beginning at 8 p.m. The event is free of charge, but a $10 donation at the door is encouraged.

Come celebrate the life of Charles W. McDaniel with a night of live jazz music, while supporting the next generation of musicians and teachers coming from northwest Ohio!

Charles W. McDaniel Scholarship Fund Charles W. McDaniel was an active member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 15-286. A pianist, he joined Local 286 in 1958. He maintained his love of the Union through the time when Local 15 merged with Local 286 in 1964 and was elected as the first black secretary/treasurer of Local 15-286 in 1999. He spent a tremendous amount of time and energy in the Local’s office encouraging musicians of all genres to join the Local and promoted the benefits of the AFM to everyone who would listen. McDaniel made a huge impact on the youth in his community and the community at large. He devoted so much of his time and energy throughout his life helping young people grow as musicians.

Through the establishment of this scholarship fund in McDaniel’s memory, his force will continue to make its mark on the community of northwest Ohio. With the help of sponsors, the fund has been able to award three young and talented musicians scholar- ships to the college of their choice for the 2011-2012 school year. Now we need the continued support of our community to help this fund grow. Page 8 The Sojourner’s Truth September 28, 2011
