Washington, DC 20559-6000 December 2, 2008 Re: RM 2008-8 -- Exemptions to Prohibition on Circumvention of Copyright Protection Systems for Defunct DRM and Copy Protection-Based Stores I. PROPOSED CLASS OF WORKS We respectfully request an exemption to DMCA §1201(a)(1)(A) for lawfully purchased sound recordings, audiovisual works, and software programs distributed commercially in digital format by online music and media stores and protected by technological measures that depend on the continued availability of authenticating servers, when such authenticating servers cease functioning because the store fails or for other reasons. We also request a separate exemption for the same class of works even prior to the failure of the servers for technologists and researchers studying and documenting how the authenticating servers that effectuate the technological measures function. The technological measures at issue include digital rights management (DRM) technologies and copy protection mechanisms encoded into purchased music, videos, and software, which are sold with a set of permissions and require authentication with remote servers in order to allow users to fully exercise those purchased rights, including the ability to access the works on other devices, or in some cases, to allow continued access to the works on the same device. -

Microsoft Auto 4.0 Datasheet
Driving Connectivity Microsoft Auto provides a flexible, robust, high performance infotainment platform that enables you to: Create innovative, differentiated solutions for your customers Reduce development cost and shorten time to market Keep your vehicles up-to-date with support for the latest technology 1 Welcome and Foreword The automotive industry is at an inflection point, where software plus services will redefine the future of the in-vehicle experience, and innovation is the new currency. This innovation goes beyond the features and scenarios enabled inside the vehicle cabin, it creates new vehicle ownership scenarios enabled on the web, the PC, and the mobile phone, and extends the relationship with the customer beyond the point of sale. These new scenarios require innovation in the business models and design and engineering processes used to bring breakthrough products to market. Consumers are expecting more from their vehicle systems, and from the level of integration those systems have with their other electronic devices and services. The key challenge facing automakers is how to bring these innovative solutions to their customers quickly and affordably, while maintaining a competitive edge and differentiation. The Microsoft Auto platform and Microsoft Auto Services are the critical components needed to deliver end to end scenarios on that challenge. Automakers face many challenges today, from competitive pressure and cost pressure at every point in the supply chain, to globalization of manufacturing and ensuring global applicability of solutions, and in marketing solutions in new and creative ways to sell cars faster. Microsoft is partnering with the automotive infotainment industry deeply to help address these challenges. -
Hedy Lamarr Achievement Award for “Emerging Leaders in Entertainment Technology”
HEDY LAMARR ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR “EMERGING LEADERS IN ENTERTAINMENT TECHNOLOGY” PRESENTED BY: DEG: THE DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP THE HEDY LAMARR ACADEMIC AWARD SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group is pleased to announce the annual "Hedy Lamarr Achievement Award for Emerging Leaders in Entertainment Technology," which recognizes female college students in their junior year whose studies in the fields of entertainment and technology have shown exceptional promise. The $10,000 Award will be presented in November 2018, to coincide with the 104th anniversary of Hedy Lamarr's birth. Austrian-American actress Hedy Lamarr was a Hollywood legend who is best known for her roles in a number of film classics including, Samson and Delilah, The Strange Woman, and Tortilla Flat. She was also a lifelong inventor whose innovative work included pioneering "frequency hopping" which became the foundation for spread spectrum technology. Conceived by Lamarr and composer George Antheil for radio guidance systems and patented in 1942, this highly secure technology resists interference and dropout, and is utilized today for a variety of cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth applications. To honor Ms. Lamarr, the scholarship seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them in entertainment technology, be those pursuits academic or professional. The award winner will receive $10,000 as they enter their senior year of undergraduate study. While there are no specific restrictions on the use of this monetary award, we hope and expect that the funds will be used to further the winner’s study or efforts in their recognized area of excellence.
