A COLLECTIVE MOVEMENT- WORLD SOUSVEILLANCE DAY - LACK OF EVERYDAY CONVERSATION AMONGST ALL PEOPLE - IT IS FUNNY BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING. TOOLS, TWITS AND ONLINE PETITIONS DO NOT EFFECTIVELY WORK. - NOT EVERYONE LOOK FOR RELATED ARTICLES, LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS - WE ARE GOING TO USE MORE AND MORE TECHNOLOGIES WHICH INVOLVE MORE COMPLICATED FORMS OF SURVEILLANCE THREE LAWS - LISA LORENZIN 1. YOU CANNOT WIN 2. YOU CANNOT BREAK EVEN 3. YOU CANNOT QUIT THE GAME SOME REASONS «Cameras begin to make TERRORISM IS NOT TERRORISM the need for themselves.» IF MY MOM CARES I CARE «People will no longer SOCIAL/RACIAL PROFILING know whether they are on camera or off camera.» CONTROLL 1. Computational Sociology: Top down power and science of looking at people as an understandable crowd. 2. Tapping into dangerous social activities and stopping them. Berlin Wall never could fall if people where under surveillance. 3. Preparing Conservative citizens. People are concerned about the future. HOW CAN I TALK WITH PEOPLE ABOUT THAT? NOT IN THE ROOMS, NOT IN LECTURES, BUT IN STREETS. EXISTING TOOLS https://vimeo.com/136137229 http://mashable.com/17/09/2013/stealthwear-protects-privacy/#Rx1V.OK3waq6 SOUSVEILLANCE Sousveillance (/suːˈveɪləns/ soo-VAY-ləns) is the recording of an activity by a participant in the activity, typically by way of small wearable or portable personal technologies The term «sousveillance», coined by Steve Mann, stems from the contrasting French words sur, meaning «above», and sous, meaning «below», i.e. «surveillance» denotes the «eye-in-the-sky» watching from above, whereas «sousveillance» denotes bringing the camera or other means of observation down to human level LIFELOGGERS The first person to do lifelogging, i.e., to capture continuous physiological data together with live first-person video from a wearable camera, was Steve Mann whose experiments with wearable computing and streaming video in the early 1980s led to Wearable Wireless Webcam. Starting in 1994, Mann continuously transmitted his everyday life 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and his site grew in popularity. Using a wearable camera and wearable display, he invited others to both see what he was looking at, over the Web, as well as send him live feeds or messages in real time. In 1998 Mann started a community of lifeloggers (also known as lifebloggers or lifegloggers) which has grown to more than 20,000 members. Wafaa Bilal, an assistant art professor at New York University›s Tisch School of the Arts, recorded his life through still images taken at one-minute intervals by a camera surgically attached to the back of his head. The photos sent to an art museum in Qatar which commissioned the work. Bra Cam wearable interactive art installation that reverses the «male gaze» of surveillance by resituating a pair of surveillance cameras as two wearable wireless webcams. MCVEILLANCE Word «McVeillance» in reference to «The process by which the principles of surveillance are coming to dominate sight itself.»(!) «McVeillance» is not merely the mass production of surveillance, but also its one sided sight: watching everyone while forbidding them from watching back. Here›s a definition: McVeillance is the installation or using of surveillance cameras while simultaneously prohibiting people from having or using their own cameras, hand held magnifiers, smartphones, or the like. SURVEILLANCE CAMERA MAN Youtuber Surveillance Camera Man is an anonymous male who films unsuspecting people in Seattle. He rarely speaks and never shows his face in his videos, instead choosing to focus his camera on random people and film their reactions to being recorded in public. The reactions are often hostile. He occasionally brings up the fact that many stores have surveillance cameras which tape customers. He often responds to his angry victims by saying that he has the right to film people in public, even without permission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzysxHGZCAU APOSEMATIC JACKET http://www.designboom.com/technology/aposematic-jacket-shinseungback-kimyonghun-self-defense-surveillance- system2014-23-11-/ Boston, Massachusetts Portland, Oregon CHICAGO UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS Washington DC NEW HAVEN Providence, Rhode Island Downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan OAKLAND 11 13 100 HA RL EM RIVER NINT H AV rk Y Pa W 220TH ST ill H od o DWA Inw A BRO W 219TH ST W 218TH ST W 218TH ST 124 CAMERAS ROTATIONAL GLOBE STATIONARY W 217TH ST AV Community District 12 INDIAN RD W 216TH ST SEAMAN K TER E PAR NINTH AV PARK TER W TENTH AV TENTH W 21 5TH W 215TH S ST T W 214TH ST W 214TH ST W R TE PARK W 213TH ST W 212TH ST W 211TH ST ISHA M S T AV N A M A T W SE S 2 07TH ER P S O T AV CO Y SON A W PAY AD RO B V W 208TH ST A W 2 YEA 04T L H MI ST R IOR ST VE B EXTER EAK W 207TH ST ST SHERMAN AV A C CA V W 206TH ST UMMI DE A N M G Y ST ST S T PO D V YCKM A AN ST W 205TH ST NAGLE W ST STAFF ST W 204TH ST ENSHA H RIVE PAYSON ST RSIDE DR W 203RD ST V HUDSON RIVER HUDSON A TENTH NINTH AV W 202ND ST THA L P YE k N R W 201ST ST ar S P T NGA O D AR D EN S T ACADEMY ST S V IC KLE S ST SHERMAN A MAR ark n P E ryo LLWOO t T G or F I D NA E AV S L T D L ST IL H R E V HILLSI ET A GE D Y WH CKMAN ST AGLE AR N T F S FORT GEOR 96TH 1 rk W Pa F O R T GE ORGE rk Pa L P AV RDUS GA O B HILLSIDE AV W 193RD ST V W 193RD ST R A W VIE IR FA DWAY TE DWAY ST W 192ND A W 192ND ST BRO AV H T W 191ST ST HOLAS AV HOLAS .
