Victoire Pisa=s third dam, the Italian winner Short Rations, produced Group 1-winning stayers on two continents, with Arctic Owl taking the Irish St Leger and Marooned the Sydney Cup. The next dam, Short Commons, exceeded initial expectations by easily winning the Free H., prior to finishing a close fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas. Short Commons= younger half-sister Pampalina sold for as little as 230gns as a foal, but that didn=t stop her winning the 1967 Irish Oaks. Short Commons and Pampalina both produced stallion sons, the former being responsible for the smart He Loves Me and the latter for the Irish 2000 Guineas winner Pampapaul. The Pampalina branch of this family also did well for the late Jean-Luc Lagardere, and it now has several representatives in the Aga Khan=s stud book, so this family has earned a great deal of respect over the last 40 years or so..
