FRAMPTON VS. QUIGG TO BE SPONSORED BY WILLIAM HILL VEGAS Cyclone Promotions and Matchroom Boxing are delighted to announce that the World Super-Bantamweight unification clash between Carl Frampton MBE and Scott Quigg will be sponsored by William Hill Vegas. The unbeaten champions clash at the sold-out Manchester Arena live on Sky Sports Box Office and on SHOWTIME in the US. Frampton makes the third defence of the title he landed on a huge night in his hometown against Kiko Martinez in September 2014. The 28 year old made his first defence at his Odyssey Arena fortress in Belfast, stopping Chris Avalos in February 2015 before travelling to Texas to defeat Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in July – taking his record to 21-0 with 14 KO wins. Frampton vs. Quigg is William Hill Vegas’ second Sky Sports Box Office sponsored event following the December British Heavyweight title classic featuring Anthony Joshua MBE and Dillian Whyte. Quigg defends his title for the seventh time, having blasted Martinez away in two rounds in his last outing at the Manchester Arena in July, where he’s defended the title on four occasions. The 27 year old’s win over the Spaniard was his 23rd KO win from 31 victories. Snips and Snipes 8 February 2018 The threat that the IOC may drop boxing from the 2020 Olympic Games should come as no surprise. For a few years now the AIBA which has responsibility for administrating International “amateur” boxing-but let’s not kid ourselves the Olympics Games are no longer for amateurs-have too long been focusing on making money rather than developing the sport. For a few years they have through the WSB and other initiatives helped make the transition from AIBA to professional boxing easier for elite boxers. However they have failed to tackle the quality of judging and refereeing and have failed to put in place and to police internal controls leaving themselves open to allegations of mismanagement and profligacy taking the organisation to the edge of bankruptcy. The criticism over their handling of boxing at the Rio Olympics had already put them under the IOC spotlight and then they went and shot themselves in the foot over the appointment of an interim President . They selected a man who has been sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department for alleged links to a major “transnational criminal organisation”. I can almost imagine the conversation “We need an interim President let’s appoint Gafur Rakhimov” with one voice saying “ isn’t he sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department for alleged link to a major “transnational criminal organisation”. “Yes sounds just the man for the job”! A ban from the Olympics would be a huge blow for boxing’s prestige but it is more difficult to decide whether it would have any repercussions for professional boxing.

Crolla will be in Quigg’s corner when he meets the classy Belfast IBF champion in the Arena that Crolla landed his own World title with a stunning KO win over Darleys Perez in November, when Quigg was in ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla’s corner as he crunched home the body shot that saw him become WBA World Lightweight king. WORLD BOXING ASSOCIATION GILBERTO JESUS MENDOZA President Resolution No. 201604060612 WBA Championships Committee Super Bantamweight Division April 06, 2016 I. BACKGROUND On January 7, 2016, the WBA Championships Committee issued Resolution No. 201601070612 clarifying the status of the division. The Resolution named Guillermo Rigondeaux (“Rigondeaux”) as Champion in Recess and authorized Scott Quigg (“Quigg”) to participate in a unification bout with IBF Champion Carl Frampton (“Frampton”) via special permit conditioned on the winner facing Rigondeaux as the next opponent. The Resolution was provided to Frampton’s representatives January 8, 2016. On February 27, 2016, Frampton defeated Quigg via split decision in Manchester, UK, to become the WBA and IBF Unified Champion of the division. On February 29, 2016, the WBA again wrote to Frampton advising him of his mandatory obligation to face Rigondeaux as his next opponent. In March 2016, press releases announced that Frampton did not intend to face Rigondeaux in his next bout. On March 11, 2016, the WBA wrote to Frampton inquiring whether the press releases were accurate and requested he confirm his intentions on or before March 18, 2016. The WBA received no response. Additionally, Rigondeaux’s representatives were not approached by anyone on Frampton’s behalf to negotiate a bout. II. ANALYSIS A. A champion must remain active and regularly defend his title. Champions must defend their titles within nine (9) months. Within sixty (60) days of the expiration of the mandatory defense period, a champion is limited to fighting only a mandatory contender as directed by the WBA or leading available contender. More importantly, the Hall is the institution of record for rewarding meritorious service in the sweet science – the honor-bestower to which inductees keep returning in Canastota, New York every June. It ain’t perfect, but it’s still the place to be. Because fighters’ careers are fluid, shifts can be sudden and settled law is open to smudging at a later date, there are few foregone conclusions among active IBHOF candidates-in-waiting. The list: Manny Pacquiao, Roman Gonzalez, Nonito Donaire, Terence Crawford, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Canelo Alvarez. That’s it. But what of the rest? Which other current fighters have a shot?
