He slept all the way to eral decades. Dublin was no exception. Fortunately, over the last 20 years or so, that trend has shifted and cities around the country have decided to look for innovative ways to revitalize their downtowns. Why are downtowns so important and why the need for revitalization? Downtowns are the heart of a community and an indication of its social and eco- nomic health. Since downtowns are often then the oldest neighborhoods in a city, they contain unique features and iconic historic buildings. Community leaders, along with the Dublin Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Dublin have done a tremendous job of bringing new life, businesses and jobs to our downtown. Throughout the year, the DDA hosts several events that showcase the many amenities downtown has to offer. A turning point in the revitalization of downtown was the 1995 renovation of the former Martin Theater building, renamed Theatre Dublin. This kicked off a wave of restoration that has seen numer- ous projects, once thought impossible, come to fruition. One of the most notable recent achievements was the September 2015 grand opening of the $3.8 million renovation of Dublin’s seven-story “Skyscraper,” the former First National Bank building. The building has served as a landmark for our community for over 100 years. The building had seen multiple owners and had James Madison (1751-1836) ‘Man of faith and Chief Architect of the U.S. Constitution’ stood empty for three decades and was thought to be By DR.
