FOREWORD Volume III of the Bulgarian Stud Book of Thoroughbred horses contains the information about the pedigrees and a summary of the breeding activity for the period of 2010- 2013 including. The breeding activity data has been obtained on the basis of the documentation of the stud farms in the country. The reliabilty of the origin of the born foals is confirmed through a DNA test from GeneControl GmbH – Germany. The Bulgarian Stud Book has been compiled in accordance with the requirements of the International Stud Book Committee (ISBC). In compliance with the requirements of the ISBC, the information about the horses has been presented in (?) sections. Each section contains specific information and the necessary data about the horses. The Bulgarian Stud Book starts with the rules and regulations for registering Thoroughbred horses in the Republic of Bulgaria. For all horses registered in the present volume, after their name the suffix of the country in which they are born and identified. The registration of the imported stallions and mares is on the basis of export certificates issued by the country from where they have been imported. The list of imported horses is given in the respective section by year of import. The exported horses are also grouped in a separate section. Broodmares available as at the present moment are described in a detailed alphabetical order with the respective pedigree and result from their breeding activity. The cases, in which the mare has been covered by a Non-Thoroughbred stallion, are recorded in a relevant way. The stallions, which covered mares in Bulgaria, together with their offspring are presented in the different section. Volume III of the Bulgarian Stud Book also contains addendum to previous volume as well as errata to volume II. The requirement for all colts/fillies born in the country and registered in Volume III to have DNA anaysis with reliability test has been adhered to. Opposite to the name of each foal, the name of the breeder is shown. And by «breeder» Bul SBC understands the following: a person or a legal entity that owns the mare at the time of foaling. Bul SBC guarantees that artificial insemination and methods of other genetic manipulations are not used in the reproduction of Thoroughbred horses. All offspring are the result of natural mating. REGULATIONS FOR REGISTRATION OF THOROUGHBRED HORSES IN THE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA 1. General rules 1.1 The Bulgarian Stud Book means a Register of the Republic of Bulgaria for Thoroughbred horses. 1.2 According to Article 12 of International Agreement on Breeding, Racing and Wagering (I.A.B.R.W.), a Thoroughbred is a horse which is recorded in the Thoroughbred Stud Book of the country of its foaling, that Stud Book having been granted Approved status by the International Stud Book Committee (I.S.B.C.) at the time of its official recording. The rules and requirements of qualification for a horse to be registered as Thoroughbred in Bulgaria are set in this regulation. 1.3 Modification of the heritable genome of a prospective or registered Thoroughbred, during its conception, gestation or at any stage thereafter in its existence, will result in that horse forfeiting its status as a Thoroughbred. 1.4 The Bulgarian Stud Book for Thoroughbreds is kept by the National Horse Breeding Association, which is a federation for Bulgarian breeders’ organizations, and which keeps horse registers under the supervision of the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The National Horse Breeding Association (Bulgarian Stud Book Authority – BUL SBA) is an organization free of direct influence of breeders but liaise closely with the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association. 1.5 BUL SBA is responsible for preparation and publication of Bulgarian Thoroughbred Stud Book, its rules and requirements, and provides its regular printing and issuing. 1.6 The preparation and publication of SB by BUL SBA is in accordance with the requirements of the International Stud Book Committee (I.S.B.C.), The Agricultural Act of the Republic of Bulgaria and the norms of its applying. 1.7 BUL SBA is the sole organization in Bulgaria that has the rights to issue pedigree documents for Thoroughbred horses registered in Bulgaria. 1.8 BUL SBA is a signatory to the following Articles of the International Agreement on Breeding, Racing and Wagering (I.A.B.R.W.) of the International Federation of Horse Racing Authorities: - Article 3 (B, C and D) – Traceability of international movements of horses - Article 4 – Use of a suffix showing the country of foaling - Article 12 – Definition of a Thoroughbred - Article 13 – Register of Non – thoroughbred horses - Article 14 – Registration of name - Article 15 – Identification of horses 2. International Relations and Interaction 2.1. BUL SBA as Member SBA sends delegate to the relevant regional I.S.B.C. body, the European and Mediterranean Stud Book Liaison Committee (E.M.S.B.L.C.), and implements policies as directed by the I.S.B.C. 2.2. BUL SBA has signed the Declaration of Compliance introduced by I.S.B.C. which confirms that the BUL SBA will at all times maintain the standards of I.S.B.C. and therefore can keep its internationally approved Thoroughbred Stud Book status. 2.3. BUL SBA operates system for communication with other official Stud Book authorities such as fax, e-mail etc. 2.4. BUL SBA appoints a representative member who conducts the correspondence and relations with other Approved Stud Book Authorities, I.S.B.C. and E.M.S.B.L.C. 3. Requirements for registration in Bulgarian Thoroughbred Stud Book 3.1. Stallions 3.1.1. In Thoroughbred breeding, Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer or Transplant, cloning or any other form of genetic manipulation is prohibited. 3.1.2. BUL SBA is obliged to publish annually the Thoroughbred stallions registered for breeding. 3.1.3. BUL SBA registers the breeding stallions. The owner of the stallion should declare his application for stallion registration in written from. 3.1.4. Right after the application for registration of the stallion, BUL SBA inspectors verify the stallion’s identity against his passport and obtain a DNA profile / blood type. 3.1.5. The owner of the stallion is obliged to check the registration of the mare for covering and its identification against her passport. 3.1.6. The owner of the stallion is obliged to inform in written form for all covered mares in the current year, in appointed intervals, using the official form /Certificate for covering/. The Certificate of Covering contains a serial number, information on the stallion and the mare (name, year of birth, color, owner etc.), first and last covering dates and a statement signed by the owner of the stallion that Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer or Transplant, cloning or any other form of genetic manipulation were not used. 3.2. Mares 3.2.1. Every year, Bul SBA must register all Thoroughbred broodmares. The BUL SBA obtains the DNA profile / blood type for the registered broodmares. 3.2.2. Every broodmare owner must verify the identity of the mare as well as check the stallion registration before covering. 3.2.3. Mares, covered abroad and imported pregnant to Bulgaria should have a covering certificate, issued by the official authority of the country where the mares have been covered. 3.2.4. BUL SBA is obliged to give annual announcement of the recorded broodmares. 3.3. Foals / Broodmare returns 3.3.1. BUL SBA officially publishes the results of coverings and new-born foals for every breeding season. 3.3.2. The broodmare return must provide for the following to be reported: (a) live foals (see 3.3.3) and (b) non-productive results, categorisation as follows: barren, slipped, aborted early, dead at birth, died since birth, covered by Non Thoroughbred horse, not covered etc. 3.3.3. The owner of the mare is obliged to declare a foaling to BUL SBA within 14 days using the official form that includes date of birth, color, sex, pedigree (sire, dam), name of Breeder who is the onwer of the mare at the time of foaling, notification of twins and the serial number of the certificate of covering. 3.3.4. The written and graphic description of markings of the foal filled by BUL SBA inspectors on the official document is done before weaning and are sent to BUL SBA before the foal is 6 months old (certificate for identification of new born foal). 3.3.5. The foal is eligible to be recorded in a Stud Book if the following requirements are satisfied: 3.3.5.1. Status of sire and dam: The horse must be the product of a mating between a sire and a dam, both of which are recorded in an approved Thoroughbred Stud Book or either or both must have been promoted from a Non-Thoroughbred register under the terms set out in Article 13 paragraph 4.1. from I.A.B.R.W. Where the dam has been imported into the country where the foal is born, either permanently or for a temporary period not exceeding nine months, an export certificate or Breeding Clearance Notification (as appropriate) must have been lodged before the foal may be registered.
