Sather, who is the 22nd head men’s basketball coach at Northern State, is a 1996 graduate of NSU. Sather has compiled an 126-78 record while at Northern. In 2016-17 the Wolves finished tied for second in the overall league standings with Southwest Minnesota State, finishing 22-8 overall and 17-5 in the NSIC. Three Wolves garnered All-NSIC honors as Logan Doyle was named the NSIC Newcomer of the year and to the NSIC first team, and Ian Smith and Mack Arvidson were named to the NSIC second team. Northern State junior DJ Pollard was named the NSIC Elite 18 recipient holding the top GPA from the NSIC Championships with a 3.96 mark. In his sixth season at the helm Sather landed two on the All-NSIC second team in senior Skye Warwick and junior Darin Peterka. The Wolves also tallied an upset victory over then No. 1 Augustana 90-81. The Sather File In 2014-15 he led the Wolves to their first NCAA Regional appearance since the 2008-09 season. The Yellow Jackets also qualified for the national tournament in 2009-10 and compiled an overall conference record of 46-25 in the five years under Sather, including winning two Dakota Athletic Conference championships. As an assistant for the Wolves in the early years of his career, Sather was a part of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season championships and NSU’s first ever NSIC Tournament Championship. After earning his bachelor’s degree in secondary education in 1996 from Northern State University, he served as physical education teacher and assistant boys’ basketball coach at Sidney High School in Nebraska from 1996-1997. The following year he was a graduate assistant at Wayne State College while he earned his master’s degree in sports administration. Originally from Princeton, Minn., Sather had a stellar career collegiate career as a Wolf from 1990-1994. He was team captain for the NSU when they earned back-to-back national runner-up finishes in 1993 and 1994. Sather resides in Aberdeen with his wife Kelsie and their two children, Sam and Becca. Michael Cooper Student Assistant Michael Cooper enters his third season with the Northern State University men’s basketball team in 2017-18 as a student assistant. A native of Monticello, Minn., Cooper directly assists the coaching staff with game preparation, film and video breakdown, player development and statistical analysis. He is pursuing a bachelors degree in Biology with an emphasis in biotechnology at Northern State. 2 - NSUWOLVES.COM 2017-18 NORTHERN STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL Sundance Wicks Associate Head Coach Sundance Wicks enters his second season with the Wolves men’s basketball team in 2017-18. Wicks returned to the NSU sidelines after spending the 2015-16 season with the University of San Francisco Dons. In his first season back, the Wolves posted a 22-8 record overall and 17-5 mark finishing tied for second in the league overall standings. SDSU transfer Logan Doyle was named the NSIC Newcomer of the year, while Ian Smith and Mack Arvidson were named to the NSIC second team. Coach Wicks emphasized defense throughout his first season with the Wolves, leading the team to a league leading marks in field goal percentage defense (.443) and rebounding margin (+7.4). Since his time as a Northern State student-athlete from 1999-2003, Wicks has held assistant coaching positions at NSU, Colorado (2006-07), Northern Illinois (2007-11), and most recently San Francisco. In his season with the Dons, San Francisco finished fifth in the West Coast Conference behind the likes of Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and BYU. USF tallied a 15-15 record overall and 8-10 record in the difficult WCC. From 2011-15, Wicks worked tirelessly in launching the Arizona Power Basketball Academy. He built APBA from the ground up and served as a skill instructor and program director based out of Gilbert, Arizona. Prior to launching the Arizona Power Basketball Academy, Wicks spent five months training NBA Pre-Draft prospects at the Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas. His draft class trainees included Kawhi Leonard (San Antonio Spurs), Alec Burks (Utah Jazz), Isaiah Thomas (Boston Celtics), Xavier Silas (Northern Illinois), Jon Diebler (Ohio State), Malcom Lee (UCLA), and Jordan Williams (Maryland). All the as-yet-unidentified perpetrator was able to make off with was a sizable donation jug which previously sat on the organization’s front desk. “There couldn’t have been more than 20 or 25 dollars in there,” said Dayle Reed, Food Bank manager. “When peo- ple come through here they put in a dol- lar or two. I clean it out every other month.” After Gosset Alarm Company noti- fied Ukiah Police officers, Food Bank employee Bonnie McCutcheon made her way over to the building. “I arrived at around the same time the cops did,” she said. “They had their guns out and they went through the building. I walked to the back of the parking lot and then they came back out and we did a walkthrough of the building.” After inspecting the pantry’s stocks and offices, it was determined nothing was missing except the donation jar.
