Over the years, as much as I’ve tried to convince myself otherwise ... there is no secret sauce - just relentless hard work, artistry and purpose. My love affair is the commitment to producing dujour moments for my clients. My attention to detail borders on madness. Seldom do I see apparel as a “yes” or “no,” but as abstract notions of color, proportion, patterns and genres to be cast into something strikingly picture-perfect. My best work springs from days of dehydration, famine, health food deprivation and 5AM crew calls. For some reason I can never ﬁnd my car keys, but unfailingly earn gold stars for my ﬂawless and timely execution of concepts - all while respecting the all mighty dollar. Occasionally, large success quotas are reached in very short time frames, leading to "viral" productions, among which music videos are the most prominent and YouTube is users’ preferred platform. Methodology: To know the essential bases that explain the viral capacity of a music video, research has been carried out using as a methodological technique the content analysis applied to a sample of 400 video clips, 200 in 2015, and 200 in 2018 following broadcast criteria. Results: video clips have evolved, in the 3 years that separate the two analyzes, in aspects such as the language of the songs, their style, or the theme.

En ocasiones, se alcanzan grandes cuotas de éxito en plazos de tiempo muy cortos, dando lugar a producciones “virales”, entre las que los vídeos musicales son las más destacadas y YouTube la plataforma preferida de los usuarios. Metodología: Con el objetivo de conocer las bases esenciales que expliquen la capacidad viral de un video musical, se ha realizado una investigación utilizando como técnica metodológica el análisis de contenido aplicado a una muestra de 400 videoclips, 200 en 2015 y 200 en 2018 siguiendo criterios de difusión. Resultados: los videoclips han evolucionado, en los 3 años que separan los dos análisis, en aspectos como el idioma de las canciones, su estilo o la temática.

Es muy común escuchar en canciones de básicamente cualquier artista de reggaetón alguna referencia a un barrio o caserío de Puerto Rico, en ocasiones aquel en el cual el artista se crió o con el cual tiene algún tipo de vínculo emocional, como es el caso de Cosculluela y el residencial Jardines de Quintana en Hato Rey. Alusiones a la vida dentro de estos espacios marginados forman también un tema recurrente en las canciones del género, aun cuando estas tienden a enfatizar (y exagerar) los aspectos vinculados al narcotráfico y a la violencia en estos sectores (Ruiz Vega). Esta presencia tan marcada del barrio y el caserío puertorriqueño en el reggaetón ha ayudado a proyectar y a mercadear el género y a sus artistas como “la voz del barrio y el caserío”, o sea como símbolos identitarios de las comunidades más pobres de la isla. Muchos videos de reggaetón contribuyen grandemente a este discurso identitario promovido en el género a través de sus imágenes y mensajes visuales. En este artículo analizaré el video de la canción “Gasolina” de Daddy Yankee, una de las canciones más famosas en la historia del reggaetón (Cobo), y mostraré cómo el video representa a los sectores marginados y cómo se intenta establecer un vínculo emotivo con ellos.
