The Search Group | Carney, Sandoe & Associates 2 [email protected] | www.carneysandoe.com ACADEMICS North Jakarta Intercultural School offers an international experience with a progressive, U.S. orientation. It follows the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). These standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards focus on core concepts and procedures starting in the early grades, which gives teachers the time needed to teach them and gives students the time needed to master them. Because their design and content have been refined through successive drafts and numerous rounds of evaluation and feedback, the standards represent a synthesis of the best elements of standards-related work in all states and other countries to date. Maximum class size is 22 students with many classes much smaller. Because many students come to NJIS from non-English speaking schools or are not fully fluent in English, NJIS provides a language immersion education wherein English is the primary language of instruction. Language immersion provides a content-rich environment in which English is explicitly instructed from elementary through high school, and in classes where English Language Learners learn in the same context as their English-speaking peers. The Search Group | Carney, Sandoe & Associates 3 [email protected] | www.carneysandoe.com Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten NJIS is committed to developing the youngest of learners in an Early Childhood Education program which emphasizes the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of each child. Teachers help students discover and enhance their full potential in order to become independent, responsible, and socially adjusted individuals in schools, at home, and in the community. Bright and spacious classrooms, activity rooms, and play spaces allow children to learn and inquire. Facilities also include a library with a large collection of developmentally-appropriate books and a music room for Kindergarten students to participate and engage in music, rhythm, motor, and language programs. Lower School In Lower School for students in Grades 1-5, teachers ensure that children are exposed to opportunities for positive social skill development and awareness of self and others. The grades are founded on the cumulative and social nature of learning, through which children grow and develop into committed, productive global citizens. Students follow a core academic program that helps them develop into effective communicators and critical thinkers. Students pursue coursework in all learning areas, including language arts, math, science, social studies, English language development, physical education, Mandarin, library, art, choir, music, and performing arts. sustainability Article The Level of Public Acceptance to the Development of a Coastal Flooding Early Warning System in Jakarta Nelly Florida Riama 1,*, Riri Fitri Sari 2, Henita Rahmayanti 3 , Widada Sulistya 4 and Mohamad Husein Nurrahmat 4 1 School of Environmental, Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta 10430, Indonesia 2 Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, Depok 16424, Indonesia; [email protected] 3 Faculty of Engineering, Jakarta State University, Jakarta 13220, Indonesia; [email protected] 4 Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics, Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat 10720, Indonesia; [email protected] (W.S.); [email protected] (M.H.N.) * Correspondence: nelly.fl[email protected] Abstract: Coastal flooding is a natural disaster that often occurs in coastal areas. Jakarta is an example of a location that is highly vulnerable to coastal flooding. Coastal flooding can result in economic and human life losses. Thus, there is a need for a coastal flooding early warning system in vulnerable locations to reduce the threat to the community and strengthen its resilience to coastal flooding disasters. This study aimed to measure the level of public acceptance toward the development of a coastal flooding early warning system of people who live in a coastal region in Jakarta. This knowledge is essential to ensure that the early warning system can be implemented successfully. A survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to people in the coastal areas of Jakarta. The questionnaire results were analyzed using cross-tabulation and path analysis based on the variables of knowledge, perceptions, and community attitudes towards the development of a coastal flooding early warning system.

  • Income Inequality and Socioeconomic Segregation in Jakarta
Chapter 7 Income Inequality and Socioeconomic Segregation in Jakarta Deden Rukmana and Dinar Ramadhani Abstract Socioeconomic segregation has become a common phenomenon, both in the Global North and Global South, and highly relates to income inequality. The merging of these two notions affects the geography of residential areas which are based on the socio-occupational composition. This chapter focuses on the Jakarta Metropolitan Area (JMA). Not only is Jakarta the largest metropolitan area in South- east Asia, it is also one of the most dynamic. Batavia, the colonial capital of the former Dutch East Indies in the first half of the twentieth century, was a small urban area of approximately 150,000 residents. In the second half of the century, Batavia became Jakarta, a megacity of 31 million people and the capital of inde- pendent Indonesia was beset with most of the same urban problems experienced in twenty-first-century Southeast Asia, including poverty, income inequality, and socioeconomic segregation. This study aims to identify the correlation among income inequality, socioeconomic segregation, and other institutional and contextual factors which caused residential segregation in JMA. The analysis consists of two stages. First, we examine income inequality measured by the Gini Index as well as the occu- pational structure based on the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO). Second, we investigate residential segregation by using the Dissimilarity Index as a result of socioeconomic intermixing in residential areas. The data in this study comes from multiple sources including Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statis- tics, Indonesia’s National Socio-economic Survey (Susenas), Indonesia’s Economic Census, Jakarta’s Regional Bureau of Statistics, and policies related to the housing system and investment in the JMA.

  • Indonesia's Sustainable Development Projects
a INDONESIA’S SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS PREFACE Indonesia highly committed to implementing and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the coordination of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Indonesia has mainstreamed SDGs into National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and elaborated in the Government Work Plan (RKP) annual budget documents. In its implementation, Indonesia upholds the SDGs principles, namely (i) universal development principles, (ii) integration, (iii) no one left behind, and (iv) inclusive principles. Achievement of the ambitious SDGs targets, a set of international commitments to end poverty and build a better world by 2030, will require significant investment. The investment gap for the SDGs remains significant. Additional long-term resources need to be mobilized from all resources to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In addition, it needs to be ensured that investment for the SDGs is inclusive and leaves no one behind. Indonesia is one of the countries that was given the opportunity to offer investment opportunities related to sustainable development in the 2019 Sustainable Development Goals Investment (SDGI) Fair in New York on April 15-17 2019. The SDGI Fair provides a platform, for governments, the private sectors, philanthropies and financial intermediaries, for “closing the SDG investment gap” through its focus on national and international efforts to accelerate the mobilization of sufficient investment for sustainable development. Therefore, Indonesia would like to take this opportunity to convey various concrete investment for SDGs. The book “Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Project” shows and describes investment opportunities in Indonesia that support the achievement of related SDGs goals and targets.
