Common Vision: Working Group Members Common Vision: Working Group Members Below is a list of the six Working Groups and their current membership. 1. We want to make a bigger difference in the world and serve the poor Chair: Bishop Colin: Bishop of Dorchester Lead Adviser Alison Webster: Diocesan Social Responsibility Adviser Members Rachel Carnegie: career background in international development; co-director of the Anglican Alliance; specialism in Christian community engagement with a global reach. Polly Falconer: experience of statutory sector working, mental health practitioner, member of BAME community. Jan Fishwick: Chief Executive of PACT with experience of how poverty affects children and families, and a passion about the churches being more effective in making a difference. Margot Hodson: expert on climate change, and experience of rural contexts. Tim Norwood: key resource on Community Organising especially through his experience of CItizensMK and the local course for lay Christians, ‘leading for change’. 2. Therefore atheists do not exist. What a lovely apparently logical thought! Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity, says the notice board of Neighbourhood Christian Center of the Assemblies of God. It makes you wonder whether there was an agenda there!! Donelson Baptist Church says: Forgive your enemies – it messes with their heads. I’m not sure that’s really what Jesus meant!! Oak Grove Baptist Church says: Walmart (Asda) is not the only saving place.

    PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year.     Church at Home The Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity Before the Service A very warm welcome to Church at Home this seventeenth Sunday after Trinity. Today, we mark a significant moment in the life of our Diocese, as the Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt Revd Colin Fletcher, retires this weekend. Bishop Colin has exercised episcopal oversight in the Dorchester Area covering much of Oxfordshire since 2000, and is the longest-serving Suffragan Bishop in the Church of England. He has also served with distinction as Acting Bishop of Oxford during two long vacancies. As Bishop Steven Croft has acknowledged: “Bishop Colin has helped to shape the Diocese of Oxford as much as anyone across the last 20 years.” We are honoured and delighted that our President today is Bishop Colin, with the address by the Ven. Judy French, Archdeacon of Dorchester. The theme of our service is the Lord’s Vineyard – a rich metaphor appearing numerous times in the scriptures, including in the book of the prophet Isaiah and the Gospels. Our readings today challenge us to consider our labour and our ways of living in the Lord’s Vineyard, and to ask whether these produce good fruit – the fruits of God’s Kingdom. On this, the last Sunday in Creationtide – the period in the annual church calendar dedicated to God as Creator and Sustainer of all life – we reflect further on our responsibility to tend and care for the Vineyard of all Creation that the Lord has gifted us. As we prepare to gather – physically-distanced and yet drawn together around the Word and Table of the Lord – we continue to remember in prayer all those whose lives are currently being turned upside down by the disruption and threat of both the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic – across the world, within our nation, in our local communities, and our churches.

    Welcome to the Diocese of Oxford An introduction for new clergy Welcome! As Bishops in this Diocese of Oxford, we are delighted to welcome you to your new ministry. We sincerely hope you will soon feel settled and be able to flourish here. Ministry these days is undoubtedly pressurised but there are good resources in the Diocese to support and help you, and this leaflet is an introduction to some of them. Clearly your gifts are – humanly speaking – the most valuable resources we have. We are therefore committed to offering you the best training opportunities, personal support and encouragement that we can. The Church of England is of course a fairly ‘flat’ organisation and this is a large diocese, but the Area Deans, Archdeacons and Bishops are all committed to your wellbeing, and welcome your being in touch. Naturally you will want to take responsibility for your own flourishing as well. You may well have a spiritual director, cell group, long-term friends, and others who accompany you on your journey. You may also have particular interests, both inside and beyond ministry, that sustain you and give you life. All of that is excellent; we just want the best for you. In these early stages of moving here, your Archdeacon is best placed to help you and make any connections you need. Within the first six months you will see your Area Dean, Archdeacon and Bishops, all of whom are there to help you ‘land’ safely and well. I hope this leaflet will help you (and your spouse if you are married) to understand a little more of the Diocese and the resources available.
